  1. Couple of good resources for public high-growth tech names:
  2. Amazing track record. https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2018-11-05/roper-ceo-brian-jellison-s-death-is-big-loss-for-industrial-world?srnd=opinion http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/heraldtribune/obituary.aspx?n=brian-jellison&pid=190642046
  3. I have explored direct investment in India, def hard as Pondside47 mentioned. Would recommend investing in pure-play country funds like WAINX etc.
  4. How about becoming a financial advisor / planner? The prior HC experience would be helpful in connecting with doctors / other med professionals. Valuations are high in this market at the moment but should be able to find smaller advisory businesses in 1.5-3.0x EV/sales range.
  5. Any thoughts on who might be the potential buyers for these 2 spinoffs? Separately, WSJ article on spinoff performance - https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-reason-investors-love-spinoffs-juicier-returns-1507681008
  6. Broeb22 - research note was very helpful. As the business scales up, it'll be definitely challenging finding new businesses which can contribute meaningfully. Portfolio rotation by shedding legacy industrial assets could be another option to improve the overall asset mix while also taking advantage of the higher valuations.
  7. Not sure if this got posted yet but definitely a good read - https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2900447
  8. Has anyone looked at Roper Tech, industrial PE-style conglomerate? Not cheap by any measure but its a cash generating machine. Business model is similar to BRK with each of the subs operating independently. They focus on CRI (cash return on investment) similar to CFROI which looks like a great metric to evaluate businesses. Would be curious to hear any thoughts on this name. Thanks.

    Tax liens

Tbone-1: Fair point, but don't see it's any different from other distress-type investments. Jurgis: Very helpful Thanks guys.

    Tax liens

Has anyone invested in property tax liens? It seems like an interesting model - low returns most of the time with an option to make a killing once in a while (via foreclosure). Returns in towns like Newark, Camden and Trenton (NJ) seem to be around 15-18% from talking to people in lien auctions. Texas (from what I have heard) allows for as high as 25% interest to be charged to home owners who are late on payments. Other than the administrative hassle of paperwork not sure I see any other major issue. Would be curious to hear if anyone has explored / invested in these before ,or, just general thoughts on why this may / may not be the best use of time. Thanks.
  13. I use bamsec.com > ctrl > scroll mouse wheel. Works well.
  14. Triumph Group (TGI) - new CEO, undervalued in SOTP, beneficiary of the pickup in A&D, focus on cost cutting through consolidation of facilities and product lines - a value play.
  15. A 3-D printing related business geared towards possibly highered market...Printers are becoming cheaper/smaller like Cube from 3D Systems.
