  1. Does anyone remember offhand the dates when SNS became BH, and when BH did it's reverse split? I finally sold out and need to figure out my cost basis since my broker didn't transfer it correctly...
  2. Thanks! Just exercised cashless only option, boo for taxation... oh well At least one part was in my 401k account. Phew, almost missed that! I've added calendar reminders for my other out of band warrant/option expirations! Now I just need to roll/close or exercise all my Jan '19 former leaps that are expiring on friday! :-)
  3. Oh boy I just read this. Does this mean my only option is to exercise and then sell stock if I want? Does anyone know the final adjusted strike price for the warrant?
  4. wow, these are his best ideas now... "Of the total, 42.8% is composed of cash, U.S. Treasury Bills, money market funds, and investment-grade commercial paper with an average duration of two weeks. 30.6% is in St. Joe common stock, 12.3% in the preferred stock of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, 8.9% in the debt of Imperial Metals, and 2.9% in the common stock of Vista Outdoors. Sears 8% bonds of 2019 compose 1.5% of net assets, with Imperial Metals’ common stock at 0.8% and Sears’ common stock at 0.1%. " what happened to you Bruce? :-( http://www.fairholmefundsinc.com/Documents/FairholmeFundsInc20181029.pdf
  5. The main emotion that you are attempting to control is fear possibly anxiety. As such I would encourage you to study the amygdala prefrontal cortex. Here is a quick article with suggestions to get you started https://qz.com/450517/us-navy-seals-conquer-fear-using-four-simple-steps/
  6. So does anyone have any thoughts on what caused Berkowitz to go from outperforming for many years to the streak of underwhelming performance? I still cannot believe that his best ideas were Sears, St. Joe's, and Fannie Mae Freddie Mac preferreds.
  7. you don't need to purchase whole units. Satoshi units will do. https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Satoshi_(unit)
  8. oh they have been playing this game for a long time, remember the whole "we won't collect state taxes even though we saw many many products in your state" fiasco? which is why I certainly wouldn't want them in my town.
  9. I wouldn't want them in my town that's for sure.
  10. I've moved to script editor based.. eg: =getMidPrice("AAPL180119C00100000") where tools->script editor, then enter: function getMidPrice(ticker) { ticker = encodeURI(ticker); var response = UrlFetchApp.fetch("https://query2.finance.yahoo.com/v7/finance/options/" + ticker); var chain = JSON.parse(response.getContentText()); var ask = parseFloat(chain.optionChain.result[0].quote.ask); var bid = parseFloat(chain.optionChain.result[0].quote.bid); var mid = (bid + ask) / 2; return mid; } ymmv
  11. no: "AOL would purchase Time Warner for US$164 billion... The new company will be 55 percent owned by AOL and 45 percent owned by Time Warner. The combination will immediately boast a market capitalization of $350 billion and an annual revenue stream topping $30 billion." Amzn Market Cap : 472.101B WFM: 13.639B Not even close in scale. This is pocket lint/petty cash for AMZN.
  12. Well it sounds like there's a large genetic component, so it's bound to get into shouting matches http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/12/19/genetics-politics-beliefs-encoded-genes-video_n_4455391.html https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-genetics-of-politics/
  13. remember Lustig's talk. Apparently fructose is the biggest culprit, not necessarily glucose. Apparently it's digestive pathway is like alcohol and generates all sorts of toxic byproducts.
  14. It is hard to respect a man who, at some point, can NOT admit a mistake. Buffett has always been great about admitting mistakes. (By the way...I revived this old thread to point out that some members of this board seem to have a greater mind for value investing than Morningstar's Manager of the Decade™. If Berkowitz had listened to those above this post and perhaps kept his Pfizer, White Mountains Insurance Group and Bank of America holdings instead of doubling and tripling down on Eddie Lampert...) whatever happened to.. 'we count the cash'??
  15. What other major things that they did during that period would you have them sacrifice to try to achieve that goal? It's not like they had spare capacity laying around, especially not 15 years ago. Personally, I don't think Apple pushing in the enterprise in 2002 or 2007 would've worked for many reasons, and their consumer efforts would've suffered from the lack of focus, so they'd be in worst shape today. But that's just me. Jobs said he was extremely proud of all the products and businesses he said no to so they could focus. Plus they did have an enterprise strategy and it was extremely successful, care to guess what it was? ;-)
