Shareholders get free LARGE popcorn! https://www.amctheatres.com/stockholders If you bought a share in January for $2, that'd be a return of multiples of like 2,000% annualized. I wonder if it works for fractional shares. Maybe I'll get in in a few months when Top Gun comes out.

For starters, just name the big guys-- AAPL, MSFT, FB (ads), GOOG (ads), JNJ on some product lines, COST in terms of membership fee (but probably not CPG prices). NFLX for now (remember when they first raised prices ~2010 everyone threw a fit? Then more members joined next year), AMZN in terms of AWS and in terms of squeezing suppliers (although, again not in CPG prices).

My 2 cents-- start with accounting.

How to generate list of 10 baggers over last decade?

Well if you're going to go 10 why not go 100? ? --rocketship-- Ok here's 1000% 10 year price "change", >=$5, >=100. Not sure if it's 10 baggers or 9 baggers like mentioned above. How to generate list of 10 baggers over last decade?
CapriciousCapital replied to shamelesscloner's topic in Strategies
I ran it for 10,000% price return to include OTCs with prices above $5 but I couldn't include dividends, unfortunately. Maybe this helps a little bit? Interestingly it looks like dividends are a big component of 10-baggers since I only got about 20 stocks looking at price action in a bigger universe. So maybe it doesn't help you. If you watched/read the AGM (or read the thread where I quoted this), you knew about Munger saying "Greg will keep the culture" followed by silence and no comment from Buffett. Well, today it's official. https://www.wsj.com/articles/berkshire-chooses-greg-abel-as-warren-buffetts-successor-in-ceo-role-11620054866
-
Munger: "We have a great culture, and Greg will keep the culture"
-
Earlier Buffett mentioned BRK has ~10-15% excess cash above what it'd like to have in terms of investing. He also mentioned it's only about 10% the asset value of BRK, so holding that much cash (liking the other 90% of BRK) doesn't bother him that much. Also earlier Buffett mentioned the rate-limiting step for BHE investment in power generation is transmission (limited by local factors, building through other people's land, etc). And that he'd like to reinvest more there.
-
Buffett: "If the government took a higher share of my inheritance, I don't think it would bother me..." Munger (cutting Buffett off): "I guarantee it wouldn't bother you."
-
Oh! You're right.
-
13:30 - 13:45: Introductions, goes over summary figures, again reiterates operating earnings matter and ignore capricious swings in unrealized gains. Says a "maybe not unexpected" surprise will follow soon... Could it be a dividend?

APTS - Preferred Apartment Communities
CapriciousCapital replied to Gregmal's topic in Investment Ideas
Wish I read your post first but I got the same conclusion. At first glance it looked like it was selling for the magical 67% below book because the balance sheet par value for preferreds is $0.01, not $1000. 1735 + 149 + 106 = 1990 thousand preferreds outstanding. x$1000 face value each gets you to to negative common equity -

Nice find. I'm getting up to speed on this now. They got about gross asset value for the package. ($689 million properties + $12 million for the 8 west loan = $701 million book versus $715 sale value. After encumbrances it's maybe $260 million cash. They're not out of office yet (the sale is about 60% of their pre-sale office sq ft) since they have the underperforming 814,000 sq ft skyscraper Three Reavina Atlanta (10-k says 92% leased but their website shows they have 16% vacancy currently, mostly entire floors) and 258,000 sq ft Westridge at La Cantera San Antonio. and 169,000 sq ft Brookwood Center Birmingham. Who knows how the other 40% will end up. My gut is less favorably since HIW passed on them. It's also not thrilling that they plan to use the proceeds to expand in the current market. Does anyone know about the Maryland corporate-law stuff? Apparently there are some restrictions on a bigger REIT buying them out?
