  1. Your point is well-taken. Past performance may not be indicative of future performance.
  2. TSLA was also mentioned, with a caveat regarding valuation, citing Apple during the pre-iPod era. I don't disagree with TSLA. I think trying to value Apple post-Jobs is going to be just as difficult as it was during the pre-iPod period. The assets are too intangible to be realistically and properly valued. My vote is for Apple. There are 3 known catalysts (New CEO/upcoming stock split/iPhone 6) that could seriously propel the stock price. I can't understand why Apple decided to split the shares. The only rationale that I can imagine for the split is because Apple is close to announcing another game-changing technology product or a business methodology/model that completely changes the way an existing business model has operated (past example - media).
  3. Nice to see Urbana owns a big slug of BAC - 1.2M shares @ $11.99. Some of the other holdings might be a little more difficult to value. Interesting read.
  4. I think they would have to hire people to run and administer the fund.
  5. BFCF/BFCFB had a great day today.
  6. Just a short blurb on ValueWalk about Awilco http://www.valuewalk.com/2014/04/awilco-vantage-and-opportunities-in-small-cap-offshore-drillers/
  7. the BAC A warrants expire in 01/2019
  8. Hey Packer and the rest of the board, I've read the contents of this topic 3 times now, and many thanks to all of you for your contributions. I have a couple of questions about ALSK. ALSK is one dirt-cheap stock, based either on earnings or pps. They also made a significant dent in LT debt last year. Any thoughts on why the insiders are continually selling their shares? Those shares cost them zilch, and they are giving them away for not much more than zilch. Am I wrong to assume that the in-flows from the AWN agreement could leave this company debt-free in 4 years, if management chose to pay-down the debt? My last question is this: I'd like to own some cable or telco in Alaska. If you didn't have either company in your holdings, would you prefer ALSK or GNCMA, and why (price/earnings/CF/EBITDA/management/industry). I'm leaning towards ALSK because I can see GNCMA eventually buying them out. Thank you.
  9. I tried to put in a really low-ball bid on a few shares and got a message from Ameritrade that stated "Opening transactions for this security must be placed with a broker. Please contact us." Hmmm.....You have to pay the brokers rate to get a warning that it is illiquid. Anyway, I passed on my small order. And thank you for an excellent analysis on the stock!
  10. Really? When I hear GM I think Corvette and GMC trucks, but then again, I've always been product oriented.
  11. Any idea why Gasprom skipped the 2013 dividend?
  12. I own them both, but my Awilco stake is double the size of my Northern. Both are small stakes in my Roth. I like high dividends so I'm long a lot of small stakes in companies like the aforementioned, plus mortgage reits and oil trusts. SeaDrill is a first-rate company, maybe you should start a topic for it.
  13. Energy Searcher drillship waiting approval to drill in Nigeria. CAMAC Energy Inc. has informed that the Northern Offshore Energy Searcher drillship is currently located offshore Cameroon, where it is awaiting final clearance by the Nigerian Department of Petroleum Resources (“DPR”) to enter Nigeria and commence drilling operations at the Oyo Field. 14. The TCF Financial warrants are trading about for what they were sold for by Treasury, and the stock is getting close to the exercise price. Might be nice to hold some if the stock can trade up in 3.5 years. Any opinions on TCF? Tom
