  1. That's assuming that their new capacity comes on time and on budget. We know that FTP can execute, but do we have evidence that they can? Of course, it's more conservative to assume that they can, but knowing how frequent cost overruns are, I still have to wonder.
  2. I've always had Loews on my radar because of this board, but I've never really liked it, even when it got really low. It probably wouldn't rank in my top 10 or maybe even 15 best ideas. But that's just me...
  3. The only way I've found to get an idea of management is to consume (read, listen, watch) absolutely everything you can find about them and the company and let it all aggregate and cross-pollinate in your head until you form an impression. More an art than a science, IMO, though if you had to make a checklist, there are certain things that would get more value than others (large insider holding bought with personal money, actions consistent with long-term vision, etc).
  4. Saw that earlier. The pundits seem unwilling to believe that it's actually possible to succeed by doing simple things like focusing on your customer..
  5. It's entirely up to you. Personally, I think I prefered the sun-fried Dazel, though ;) My estimate of Altius's IV is fuzzy on the upside, but the downside is very clear -- extremely well protected, which makes me comfortable. If something really bad happens to Alderon and Paladin's CMB, it probably means the industry as a whole is depressed enough for Altius to deploy capital in very attractive opportunities (both in royalties and equities, and maybe repurchases), and if Alderon and Paladin go forward as planned, it should be a big homerun. In the meantime, Voisey's Bay is more than enough to fund operations/exploration... I can't quantify the upside precisely, but the range is extremely attractive and I'm confident in management's ability to do what is best for the shareholder.

  7. That's too bad. I remember you were one of the most vocal supporters of WDC back when I first gave it a look. Ultimately it wasn't a company for me, but I kind of expected you to be rolling in cash by now.
  8. Thanks, I'm definitely curious to see what kind of IV range you are seeing.

  10. +1! Cheers! I'm starting to come to this conclusion as well. Me too. I don't think it was entirely luck... but a lot of it was because of his analyst (I forget his name) who came up with the idea of the trade and pushed hard for it. After that, it was probably hard to actually execute and stick with it until it actually started working, so he deserves credit for that, but not much more.
  11. No surprise there, and there's not really any reason why their moat would be stronger in emerging markets over the long term. They really need to change what they are doing or they'll keep getting the same results. Doesn't mean there's no money to be made with the stock, though -- that I don't know..
  12. FTP was mentioned on BNN today, which could explain the volume this afternoon: http://watch.bnn.ca/#clip618929
  13. A little while ago someone (sorry, can't remember who) posted this spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApYtMgkh8FHjdHNvVHZJUk51QjNzZ3doSkxjaTlweHc#gid=1
  14. http://lechoabitibien.canoe.ca/webapp/sitepages/content.asp?contentid=226228&id=296&classif=En+manchettes About the heavy metal decontamination at LSQ. FTP's only on the hook for the 7.5m in the deal, which seems like a very good thing because who knows how much it'll actually end up costing (they say 13m, but we'll see).
  15. Wow, very high volume on Alderon. I wonder if it's the Sept-iles announcement that is making people that excited.
  16. Thanks Abily. I knew it was something huge like that. How realistic that amount is depends on what the conditions to getting it are, though, but Altius has been known to under-promise and over-deliver, so we'll see.
  17. Well done Allan! Very happy you are doing well!
  18. I can't quite remember where I saw that, but the "bonus shares" that they mention altius getting if certain targets are met or exceeded, if I remember correctly thats quite a lot of shares (if anyone remember where that info was published, I'd appreciate the pointer). This could be a nice double whammy if Century hits jackpot, because Altius has a sliding royalty of 1-4%, and on top of that they could be getting more than the base 5 million shares of Century.
  19. http://www.newswire.ca/en/story/920521/harper-government-announces-job-creating-investments-in-the-port-of-sept-iles#.TzlmZ3JIJKU.email Sept-Iles is the port that Alderon will have to use. For those who can read French (or use google translate): http://www.radio-canada.ca/regions/est-quebec/2012/02/13/003-investissement-port-sept-iles-quai-eau-profonde.shtml It says the expansion should be done for March 31, 2014. In time for Kami to use.
