AVC.V - American Vanadium

all, i thought i pass on this idea - it's really not a value idea, but a highly speculative junior mining stock.... which could be worth nothing...

 

i looked at this many years ago when i was interested in battery technology, etc - the recent rally in PLUG and Ballard and Tesla got me to look back at some of the things I looked at before, and AVC is on that list..  it has depreciated from about $1 to $0.43 today (canadian venture)

 

the company owns a mine in nevada that apparently has vanadium.  based on the study they hired AMEC to do, the net present value is about $120M; this is based on cost of $5/lb and selling Vanadium for $6.5/lb.

 

vanadium is used commonly in steel to increase the strength.  it's a byproduct of iron ore mining i believe.  so that's the company's base case.

 

what they are really after is the more lucrative (perhaps) use of vanadium flow battery....  apparently the electro-chemistry of vanadium is such that it can have a lot more cycles than the current lithium ion battery and can allow rapid charge and discharge.  so this could be used in wind farms or solar farms to storage massive amount of energy and release back to the grid as needed...  i.e., making wind/solar more like hydro-electric.

 

the company is clearly trying very hard to pump the stock - if you go to their website you see they got all kinds of video.

 

they even made the link that Buffett's BYD is investing in vanadium lithium ion battery.

 

they also have a former deputy prime ministry of Canada as the chairman.

So this looks like there's a lot of efforts that's gone into this, yet the share price is just not moving.

 

disclosure: i don't own any; i believe mining is outside of my area of competence so i am just sharing this to let those who can value this to consider.
