Guest roark33
I wonder why they didn't accept the lowered number, seems like more to the story....maybe needed some liquidity to sell and the tender announcement itself provided it.
writser
I wonder why they didn't accept the lowered number, seems like more to the story....maybe needed some liquidity to sell and the tender announcement itself provided it. I think that's a bit of a tinfoil hat scenario and that it was more likely that they wanted a certain percentage ownership for tax / accounting reasons. But yeah, remains strange. Guest roark33
If they didn't get the required portion, they could have just done it again. Not like the stock traded above the offer price ever.
Homestead31
not surprisingly, this has gotten smoked since the tender didn't go through. It seems like negative momentum brought about by mostly non-economic, irrational selling from people who bought for the tender and got burned. A few ways to think about this 1) by my math, this is now trading at 7.5x "normal" EBITDA - a very very low multiple for a fast growing, asset light play on the growth of Russian E-commerce, and the remittance business 2) there is now 25% upside to the price the stock was trading at the day before the tender was announced 3) there is now 44% upside to the "strategic value" price that Otkritie identified with their tender obviously the Russian angle is its own risk, but i think this is an interesting setup at these levels. Homestead31
Otkritie purchased 5.5M shares in recent days, and QIWI entered into an agreement with an Otkritie sub that will allow small businesses that bank with the Otkritie sub to use QIWI kiosks for the business needs. #3 above is looking more and more relevant. Promotional emails labeling it the top stock pick for 2018 and calling a $50 target by National Inflation Association may have something to do with it. I'd research National Inflation Association(NIA); whom they have previously been affiliated with, and what they've been accused of doing, before diving into anything they suggest. Agree NIA looks sketchy...probably putting out the seeking alpha articles themselves.
Longnose
QIWI recently came up on one of my screeners for a company with strong fundamentals and hitting new lows. Been doing some basic research on them to see if it is anything I can understand. Looks like there may be some speculation on weather they will be impacted by some new Russian governmental regulations around them brokering on sports betting in Russia. Anyone know anything else about this company. Looking historically they seem to bounce every few years between ~11 and then back up into the 20's. Ive seen some commentary around the CEO being quite successful at finding opportunities to grow their market even when the chips are down. Curious if anyone nibbled on this a few years back and If they learned anything along the way?
