argonaut
Hi All, I am making the pilgrimage to the Oracle for my first time in 2015...arriving Wednesday and leaving late Sunday. I am looking for suggestions of what to do/places to go. I would enjoy meeting any of you who are going to be there in person. If anyone else is arriving early and wishes to meet up, let me know. I would like to try one or both of Buffet's favorite places if possible, just for kicks. Schedule so far... Arriving Wednesday afternoon. Wednesday dinner? Thursday lunch? Thursday late afternoon - Friday day: Value Conference Thursday dinner - value conference has a dinner with Russo as speaker Friday dinner - either the BRK shareholders or Yellow BRKers get together? Sat - BRK meeting - best time and place to enter? Sat evening? Sunday brunch at Markels Sunday afternoon/early evening?
tede02
Regarding the Saturday meeting, here's a couple of thoughts. There will be a line wrapping around the CenturyLink Center well before 6am. If you are hell bent on getting seats close to the stage, you have to get there very early. I've attended since 2007. I've found the stadium seats to be uncomfortable and don't care to get in line at 5am. My strategy has evolved into showing up around 7:10 or 7:15 (doors open at 7). By this time the line is gone and you can just walk right in. I prefer to sit in one of the adjacent ball-rooms where the meeting is broadcast on big screens. In my view its a lot more comfortable, easier to get in and out of and easier to hear. You can always venture into the stadium area after lunch when 1/3 or more of the people have left. If you want a chance to see Buffett up close and in-person, head into the convention area right away in the morning and look for the media mob. I actually usually go and "reserve" my seat and then walk down to the convention center, look around until about 8am, then get back in my seat a good 15 minutes for the movie starts at 8:30. The shareholder party on Friday at Borsheims isn't highly recommended by me. It is so packed you won't be able to move. Go to Borsheims on Sunday morning if you want to check it out. They serve food and drinks and its not as busy.
argonaut
Thanks! I was pondering Borsheims and will go a time other than Friday.
berkshire101
Does Berkshire send the annual meeting packet with the meeting tickets to your house if you're a shareholder? Thanks.
tede02
No. Enclosed with the 10k is a postcard you send in to get your shareholder credentials. You can get up to 4 passes.

Is there a guide Berkshire provides with all the instructions for the meeting? It'll be my first time going so everything is so new.
tede02
You'll get a meeting guide with your shareholder credentials. As I recall, everything shows up pretty promptly once you send the postcard in. You can also get meeting credentials and all the meeting info at the Century Link Center on Friday before the meeting. You just need to bring a brokerage statement to prove your ownership.

Pablo12345
Gorat’s restaurant is nice but packed over that weekend. They try to handle the crowds but often reservations run way behind. Avoid Gorat’s on Sunday night when they have a special menu for shareholders (higher prices!). Piccolo Pete's restaurant is just as nice, easier to get a reservation and the atmosphere a little nicer. I’ve wanted to try The Drover for lunch but haven’t gotten there yet. Their lunch menu looks reasonable. The dinner menu is pricey. The Borsheim event has food but the lines are crazy. Whitney Tilson has a cocktail party at the nearby Marriott following the Borshiem event. Get on his invitation list. Rosenblatt Stadium and Creighton University might be worth a look if you’re into that sort of thing. I generally stay in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The rooms are quite a bit cheaper. orthopa
I would recommend renting a car also if you plan to stay that long and move around that much. Taxis get expensive real quick and there is usally ample parking wherever you go. NFM is worth the visit just for the sheer size even if you go for no other reason. Any suggestions for companies to rent cars from? I plan to go, but since I don't travel much, this is a bit overwhelming.
merkhet
If you have a Costco membership, I would rent through them.

berkshire101
Anyone know how the traffic is during the meeting? I plan to rent a car to get around. Is parking difficult to find at the meeting? Thanks.

They also sell cars. I love Costco. Anyone know how the traffic is during the meeting? I plan to rent a car to get around. Is parking difficult to find at the meeting? Thanks. Parking is expensive, but it's not too hard to get around. There were a few Ubers last year, so that's an option as well.

Ah, like how expensive? Can you do paid parking at the CenturyLink stadium? Are there shuttles to take you places? I'm not a millionaire, yet... merkhet
I can't remember exact prices, but I remember thinking to myself that it was expensive. There are shuttles, but cabs are probably easier.
Buffetteer
Traffic to Century Link Center parking lot is a disaster before the meeting. This will be my 9th visit to Omaha and I have learned to stay close to the Center and utilize the hotel shuttles. Most hotels have them...much , much easier this way. Also, these same hotels have free airport shuttles and free shuttles to Old Market. That's basically all you need. The hotels cost a little more, but you save yourself the cost of renting a car, paying for parking, and all the headaches associated with it. berkshire101
Okay, thanks. Do you know if you have to rent a room to use the shuttle? Or can you just pay to use them? Thanks.
Buffetteer
You have to stay at the hotel to use their shuttle. They are free to hotel guests, I don't believe you can come from outside and pay to use it.
Mephistopheles
About to buy my tickets, will be going alone. Trying to decide if I should fly in on Thursday morning or Friday morning. The cost will be about $60 more for Thursday all inclusive of flight/hotel/food costs. Is it worth it, or should I just fly in Friday? Any thoughts? cubsfan
If you come in Thursday, there is plenty to do - dinner on Thursday evening with Tom Russo: http://www.valueinvestorconference.com/#dinner Thursday, I am also going to the Charlie Munger Summit: http://www.valueinvestorconference.com/#summit Friday there is plenty going on as well. Borshiems, Nebraska Furniture Mart, Union Pacific Museum, etc. All fun stuff really.

If for some reason you miss your flight or the flight gets canceled there are no other flights you can get a seat on. I would opt for arrival on Thursday.
