SF Bay Meetup Feb. 8th

Hey netnet.  I'm definitely interested, but at the risk of being "that guy", is there anyway we could move it to a less expensive place?  I love cheap, good, hole-in-the-walls myself, and I've only been to a few in Oakland myself.  Plus, they seems to be better for hanging around for longer and talking shop.  What's the industry terminology?  They're less focused on "table turns"?

Anyway, just a suggestion...

Although I am an admitted foodie, I am also true to this boards principles--value!

A lot of the "hole in the walls" are way too crowded and expensive for what they are.

You can pick around the brunch menu here and get a good price performance, at least you used to be able to. Don't look at the dinner menu at this place.  As I have not been there in awhile, I will do this, I will have brunch there and see a) how crowded it is and b) if you can fill up for under 10.

Here is part of the brunch menu:

Homemade doughnuts with wild huckleberries    7

    Basket of grilled bread    3.5

Sweet condiment plate: sheepsmilk ricotta, walnut butter, Barhi dates and homemade blood orange marmalade    6

Savory condiment plate: Fiscalini cheddar, duck liver, pickled vegetables and herb jam    6

Grilled pork and herb sausages    6

Potatoes roasted in duck fat    5

Wood oven-baked egg with herbs and cream    one for  3.5

                                                                          two for  6.5

Chicory salad with Camino vinegar and aged sheepsmilk cheese    10

Bitter greens frittat with punterelle, sunchokes and beets    11

Wood oven-baked eggs with Périgord black truffles, chanterelle mushrooms and garlic toast    21

Poached eggs with polenta, king trumpet mushrooms, cardoons and burdock    11

Half a Dungeness crab grilled in the fireplace with fennel salad, preserved lemon and chile mayonnaise    20

Smoked quail with sauerkraut, grilled rutabaga and horseradish    15

Stoneground oats with brown butter, maple syrup and almonds    7

French toast with fruit compote, hazelnuts and crème fraîche    14

Tunisian orange cake with citrus and yogurt    8

Ah.  So *meet* at 12:00pm.  I thought "the 12:00 Camino Restaurant" was the name of the place.

One other thought (sorry for being difficult!), maybe could we aim for a place that's more mass transit friendly?  I only ask because coming back to my neighborhood in SF and trying to park on a Sunday afternoon sounds... challenging.

Again, sorry for being difficult!

By the way, where are the other Bay Area people out there?  I know you're there.  Speak up!  What do you guys think?

I am in the Bay Area, but currently traveling on vacation. For the next meet up, I can host on Google campus (my work place) provided we are a reasonable sized group. I'll start a new thread once I am back.

Definitely happening!

Scheduled at the 12:00 Camino Restaurant, 3917 Grand Ave. Oakland, Sunday February 8th.

(Next one I will try to get one closer to BART.  All the Brunch places with space in downtown Berkeley were much more expensive and I know there are some deep value guys out there ;)

Yes interested, will be at the Seaboard meeting on 27th but first weekend of may would be good. You guys talking about the peninsula or east bay? I am in the peninsula.....

I'm also interested, and I am in peninsula as well.

The Google folks were going to arrange something, not to name names, hint, hint. ;)

netnet, we met a few weeks back and @jallen tried reaching you several times. I have run out of my guest quota, but I am happy to host again in the future. In the mean time, if you'll are planning to meet, I would love to join.
