scottyjukebox
Well it looks as if some of you skinny fry haters may have won out. Went to my local SNS tonight and the fries have changed. I went thru the drive thru so i did not notice till i pulled away. They are now a mcdonalds size fry but they are crispier. I actually thought they were ok so i didnt turn around and complain ;D I know this is very detrimental to the valuation of the company so i let everyone know ASAP. I will be waiting for a press release..lol
Parsad
Hell yeah! Alright! That was about my only real complaint about Steak'n Shake left. I love McDonald's french fries and I love the thick cut ones at Red Robin, so I think they really needed to switch to one or the other. Alot of people, and we're talking billions, love the McDonalds ones, so I think they made the right choice. Cheers!
oldye
I hope this is due to some unprecedented shortage of skinny fries...
ShahKhezri
I visited the one right outside of Austin on my way to San Antonio earlier today. Noticed the change in fries, much better! At the register, there was a clip-board and a "Petition to Build a San Antonio Location" with pages of contact info of people expressing interest. I asked the manager, "Why doesn't Sardar just build it himself or is he trying to franchise it?" the gentlemen said he didn't know. I asked if Sardar ever visits the location since it is only an hour away from San Antonio, he said not often, but his father visits quite a bit. Disclosure: I don't own any shares in SNS or WEST. ragnarisapirate
Disclosure: I don't own any shares in SNS or WEST. that is unfortunate :( On the note of there not being skinny fries... While it won't effect the valuation of the company, I am personally kinda sad. I don't see how anything could be better than a steakburger and skinny fries with a side of cheese sauce. Guess that I will have to eat lunch there tomorrow to see what the new fries are like. :)
Parsad
Ragnar, I'm guessing that the fries will taste just as good with the cheese sauce. And I still can't reiterate how good a double Steakburger is for the money. I can still taste it four weeks later! Geez. With better fries, I'm drooling as I write this! Cheers! bargainman
Prasad, maybe you need to call up Sardar and tell him you're interested in opening up a franchise in Vancouver! That way next time I come up I can taste me-self one of them Steak Burgers!!! :-)
link01
i'm curious as to whether or not sns did some sort of trial test runs 1st along with a questionaire to determine if this switch had juice.
tooskinneejs
I can still taste it four weeks later! That's not normally a compliment (but is good use of the literary device called creative license)!!!
Parsad
I meant I still relish the flavor four weeks later. ;D Really, it was a good burger, and I'm not saying that because I'm a shareholder. I can do without the chilli or the skinny fries, but the double Steakburger was amazing...especially for that price...ridiculous! Cheers!
tooskinneejs
I knew you meant it as a compliment, it just struck me in a funny way. Imagine the announcer during a radio commercial saying "Try a Steakburger from Steak N Shake - you'll still be able to taste it four weeks later!!" ragnarisapirate
So, I just got back from having dinner at my local SNS... and... drum roll please........ I was still served skinny fries. I am guessing this is a result of 1 of 3 things: 1) they are testing the different fries in certain markets- I seem to remember them doing this with the shooters in the Atlanta market. 2) the Lexington, KY location had a huge stash of skinny fries in the freezer. 3) this is a strictly regional change, kinda like how spam is served at McDonald's in Hawaii. Crip1
Weighing in on "The Great Skinny Fries" debate... After checking today at lunch, they are skinny here in Dallas metro area as well. The old krinkle-cut fries are like fine wine...not as popular with the masses but, to a true epicurian, superior to the slender-spud bretheren. I would further opine that the krinkle-cut fries are a better componant of a Cheese Fries order than are the skinny ones. -Crip
JEast
They are still "skinny" in my area too. The surprising thing on my recent visit was the plethora of new items with a big push on hot dogs of all things. I thought they were trying to reduce the menu items! Also, did not see the mini-burgers this time after the big push of 6 months ago. Cheers JEast
Parsad
They may be tailoring the menu by region, and whether they are franchised or company-owned. Franchisees may be given more leeway on what they may or may not provide on their menu. Cheers!
