Apparently inflation is not essential, but it is the history of the world. Pain now or pain later. Most choose pain later and therefore inflation. But it doesn't have to be that way. Either we have learned something from the past and can induce a controlled low-level inflation or we can't, and the past repeats itself due to not having the will to take the medicine on an on-going basis, delaying it further out. Now with the national debt so high, some say there is no possibility to change the system, short of a default.
