Nebraska
Has anyone else bought this stock or done any research into it? I started buying it in Nov of this last year (2016). I had originally bought the stock on the sole reason of thinking that the market cap was considerably below the replacement cost of the apx. 20,000 acres of land they own on Maui. My initial thought was the the stock would take a number of years to make any gains due to the fact that it had been in the $4-$7 range for what seemed like forever. Needless to say I am up about 80% total so far and the stock keeps going up and I'm not sure if I just got lucky or I'm on to something. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Guest roark33
Wow, just looking at the chart, looks like this company hates Democratic presidents....
Foreign Tuffett
Anyone follow this? I would be interested in learning why the Kapalua Mauka extension of their Kapalua Resort has taken forever to get off the ground. It received zoning approval way back in 2006: https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20060222005864/en/Maui-Land-Pineapple-Company-Announces-Zoning-Approval I have a tough time with land development companies in general. Will the value be realized in 6 months? 5 years? 20 years? Never?

Will the value be realized in 6 months? 5 years? 20 years? Never? Hawaii is notoriously difficult and expensive to develop...doing so without material scale, is very, very hard and developing new land is harder There was a recent redev project by the Ward Center on Oahu...this used to be an industrial area that is now mostly empty (sold) condos that have been purchased by snow-birds and foreigners...this might give some color to those with an interest in Howard Hughes since the risk might be greater for this project than it appears in the figures...last time I was there, there were plenty of retail spaces without any customers...that said, haven't been in over a year and this could have changed, but I will be out there in a couple weeks. If you build it, they might not come... Farming pineapples in Hawaii is also becoming uneconomical as the cost of labor for this kind of very hard work has only increased over time...my guess here is that this part of the business is there as long as it generates a little income, otherwise, it's not worth the effort pls kokua
