The topic of health insurance cost as one of the largest expense for any retiree came up a number of times in the "28 year old retiree" thread.

Do you guys (especially the retirees and financially independent among us) have any recommendations for best private global health insurance coverage for someone that doesn't want to worry about health insurance coverage and wants to budget for this as one of the major costs during retirement?

That seems like a question that is hugely country specific. What level of health care your home government will supply you with is an important factor in the cost/decision.

I think this one has potential - http://www.foyerglobalhealth.com/

Reasonably priced, global comprehensive health insurance. For pre-existing conditions you can negotiate a rate or get a moratorium.

Reasonably priced?  I was quoted at 3246EURO a month with a 1000EURO deductible.  That's $4k/mo USD, which is more than double what it would cost to buy the highest gold plan out of pocket.

The individual market seems to be all over the map.  Last year I was quoted at $1200/mo for family coverage, but this year I can get the same coverage for $800/mo with lower deductibles.  I'm not complaining..  That's not a bad price either, $800 is fairly affordable.  This is with no subsidies or anything.

What level of plan?  And which state?  I think there is a lot of variability between states

Maybe it depends on the specific situation. I was quoted $150 euro per month with zero deductible which is quite reasonable for a comprehensive plan - however it's the entire world - EX USA.

I want that plan. That sounds AMAZING. But I'm in the US.

My travel medical insurance is approximately twice as much if I'm going to the USA. They don't even ask where you're going other than that.

The cost of care in the US is so much greater that it outweighs the risks of going anywhere else.
