Ballinvarosig Investors
My first port of call is to check my RSS reader which I've set up to recieve SEC filing updates on various companies that I'm interested in. Not really too bothered with reading up on the macro situation. Usually look at microcap stocks and prefer blogs that get down the meaty analysis of stocks. These are blogs I particularily recommend. www.shadowstock.blogspot.com - This guy just knocks great idea after great idea out of the park. Doesn't seem to get hardly any attention, maybe because he focuses on microcap/nanocap companies. www.greenbackd.com - Not sure if there is a better site out there for liquidations/spin-off's/mergers. www.stocksbelowncav.blogspot.com - Very solid stock analysis in the true Graham style. These are also good blogs. www.unchartedstocks.com - Mostly general microcap news, but there have been a few very decent picks. www.microcapspeculator.net - Not a fan of the technical analysis/gold stuff, but there's definitely material worth reading here. www.oldschoolvalue.com - Fairly popular blog, loads of great ideas. www.manualofideas.com/blog - Same again. www.streetcapitalist.com - Mostly general news stuff, but often a few good ideas. www.stockpursuit.com - Against some gold/technical analysis stuff I'm not keen on. Thanks for the Link - Oldschoolvalue and Manual of Ideas both seem excellent and I have added them to my RSS. I listen to 90% of the economist each week. Read every post on this board via RSS. Also subscribed to Econoview (follow Krugman and a few others), Calcrisk (for Macro), BW Cover Podcast, Wealthtracks weekly Podcast, and Peter Schiff for an Austrian viewpoint on things. oldye
I find myself mixing in a lot of video w/ my general reading, fora.tv has tons of fantastic videos!
nodnub
I generally do not to watch any video or listen to any news recordings because the pacing is too slow. If the transcripts are available I can read that much faster than I can watch the video. I also find it much easier to scan through and find the important parts when reading the transcript rather than watching a video, interview, etc.
ExpectedValue
I generally do not to watch any video or listen to any news recordings because the pacing is too slow. If the transcripts are available I can read that much faster than I can watch the video. I also find it much easier to scan through and find the important parts when reading the transcript rather than watching a video, interview, etc. I used to have this mentality, but I discovered that listening to podcasts while at the gym is a good way to optimize my time. It would normally be time spent where I am unable to read (such as when I am lifting weights) -- so I may as well listen to the audio Economist or London School of Economics lectures. I also find most of the material interesting enough to motivate me to workout longer. Ex: the other day I spent another 20 min on the treadmill because I was listening to a great LSE lecture on the Greek banking system.
nodnub
that's a great approach Tariq. I thought I would enjoy listening to such recordings and bought a small ipod for this, but I found that I absorb the most from reading the material. Also, in most of my physical activities it is impossible to be listen to anything on headphones at the same time. But, for anyone that runs, goes to the gym, or has a long commute, I can see that it is good idea.
