Guest MikeTheCannon
Would anyone be able to recommend any books/papers/resources about fundamental analysis of bonds or preferred shares? I'm comfortable with equities but looking to expand my knowledge. Thanks in advance! I really appreciate it. - Mike
LC
It's been a while but I think Marty Whitman has written some good stuff about investing up the capital structure.

Cigarbutt
Hi Mike, Not sure what you're looking for. I assume you mean an overview type of package? Here's a suggestion: https://www.cfainstitute.org/learning/products/publications/inv/Pages/fixed_income_analysis_lecture_kit.aspx There is a list of "presentations". Brett
Distressed Debt Investing by Moyer is considered the standard, but I found Marty Whitman's Distress Investing to be better. I'd recommend both.
Spekulatius
Distressed Debt Investing by Moyer is considered the standard, but I found Marty Whitman's Distress Investing to be better. I'd recommend both. My rulemof thumb is that if the debt trades at less than 50 centennial the dollar, the debt should be looked at the same way than equity ( EBITDA/ EBIT to EV value being the best metric). bankruptcy can become Calvinball game when large players are involved in the stock or the debt. Packer16
I am looking for mispriced businesses & bonds are part of the capital structure & may be a safer & better investment than the equity depending upon the circumstance. This is how Ben Graham looked at securities in the capital structure. There is a good book called "Ben Graham on Investing" that has some of his case studies. There is also a short easy to read book with lots examples called "How to Make Money in Junk Bonds" that is also good. Packer
netnet
There is of course the classic discussion, Security Analysis, by Graham. (BTW, you question has made me ask myself, why I have not re-read it recently. So now inspired, I will read it again this quarter.)
