nickenumbers
Guys, DUMP QUESTION ALERT!! I am a US citizen and I have never done any direct investing outside of the USA. If I wanted to invest in companies via a stock exchange that are outside the US, like South Korea, China, India, how do I do it? I know it is a stupid question, but I don't want to google it and get a bunch of false, have true answers, I wanted to come to you smart people and get some legit input. Thank you. Pondside47
For South Korea, you can go with BOOM in HK. India is very hard for individual investors. They have process set up for foreign investors but some of the steps are not smoothed out, and I haven't been able to open a brokerage account. If anyone on the forum had managed to open an account in India, I would love to hear how it can be done.
kapilm
I have explored direct investment in India, def hard as Pondside47 mentioned. Would recommend investing in pure-play country funds like WAINX etc.
cubsfan
Heck, for India - just buy Fairfax India - let Prem do all the hard work for you. For China, look to HK exchange.
greenwave
Re: Investing in South Korea, China, India…. Nickennumbers, If you have interest in investing in Chinese real estate for the long term , you may want to review the entire COBF thread on Nam Tai Property ( NTP ) located in Shenzhen, China .The stock is actually traded on the NY stock exchange . I would also recommend that you read all of the NTP SEC filings which will provide the appraisals of the major real estate projects that are now under development. In the past year or two there have been a few news articles by the Chinese newspapers on this significant development project and its history ,etc. greenwave
mhdousa
For South Korea, you may want to ask Packer in the Ask Packer Anything thread.
satish00
Most Chinese companies trade as ADR's on the US markets and can be bought/sold here. I suggest starting there first for Chinese companies
