DTEJD1997
Hey all: I get the printed copy of Barron's. Inside the plastic bag was also a copy of the Saturday "Detroit News". I just got done reading it. My question is, "IS THIS A JOKE"? Business section is literally 1 page. Classified section is 1/2 of 1 page. There were 6 obituaries. The main section had more ads than articles. Lots of AP reprints. Editorial section was found to be weak & lacking. There were a few articles of local interest...but they were largely cursory reviews of what was going on. If you had good/proficient reporters, a handful could EASILY write the entire newspaper. This paper is simply going through the motions at this point. They are done. I knew that the situation with newspapers was bad...really bad...but I had no idea that it was as bad as what I just saw. The NYT & WSJ are different beasts...but major city papers appear to be done. If the Detroit News were a free paper, I would not even pick it up. Probably no value here at all, both as a paper AND as a business.
Gamecock-YT
Isn't the Free Press the primary paper in town?
DTEJD1997
Believe it or not Detroit still has TWO major newspapers. They are the Detroit News and Detroit Free Press. The Detroit News was the 1st paper to run a radio station back in 1920! They publish Monday through Sat. and on Sunday share the editorial page with the Free Press. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Detroit_News
