Coronavirus

Personally I think I got the virus a few weeks ago but had only relatively mild symptoms (headache, fever, fatigue, body aches)

Still, this is the exact same thing an enormous amount of the world population is saying right now, with a typical country only having 0.1% or so positively diagnosed. Either, most of us have gotten it already (could be but not that likely), or most of us are super-aware of our bodies because of the news and just had some sort of a flu we perhaps never really would have noticed if not for the corona crisis (more likely).

Trump praised Abbott's new 5-minute coronavirus testing machines. But the feds are only planning to send states up to 15 each, leaked emails show.

These emails, which were first reported on by @KHNews,  show that FEMA and HHS have only planned to order enough coronavirus tests for up to 5,500 people.

Exponential trend continues alarmingly in many countries: U.S., Spain, France, UK, German. Italy *might* be seeing a slope decline/flattening.

Some countries (i.e. UK) have close to 10% dead of confirmed cases which likely indicates lack of testing. This is in contrast to Germany where it's close to 1%. Discrepancy in age of those infected cannot explain such a gap alone.

LC "What the absolute hell is this nonsense: https://morningstaronline.co.uk/article/w/us-blocks-medical-aid-to-cuba-in-show-of-wild-west-brutality"

Trump has turned into an absolute power hungry monster - afraid he may lose support of his followers. I recently returned from Cuba where I have a number of friends. They are virtually on the edge of starvation due to Trumps inhuman blockade. The people of Cuba are on the whole well educated and intelligent people. If the US wants to see China and Russia on their doorstep this blockade is certainly the way to accomplish it. This is typical disgusting behaviour, Canada next?

Once the US smartens up and dumps Trump they are going to have a lot of kissing up to do .

Trump has to keep up his MO of undoing every action of Obama's and showing that to supporters.

He does not think about starving/ill Cubans and does not care about long term strategic benefits of having Cuba-U.S. aligned. It's a purely self interested action from someone who has a multi-decade track record of operating purely out of self interest (i.e. par for the course, don't be surprised by it).

What the absolute hell is this nonsense:

https://morningstaronline.co.uk/article/w/us-blocks-medical-aid-to-cuba-in-show-of-wild-west-brutality

“Cuba denounces the fact that medical supplies from Alibaba Foundation to help combat Covid-19 have not arrived in the country due to the criminal US blockade against the island nation,” President Miguel Canel-Diaz blasted.

More than two million masks, 400,000 rapid diagnostic kits and 104 ventilators have been donated by China’s Alibaba Foundation to fight the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

The supplies were destined for 24 countries in the region including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic and Peru.

But they were blocked from the socialist island because of the crippling US embargo, in particular the Helms-Burton Act, according to Cuba’s ambassador to China, Miguel Pereira Hernandez.

More stupidity from the open border and globalization crowd.

Let's lay the blame on the convenient all-encompassing scapegoat, The President - instead of the real culprits, the

communist regime in Cuba that has destroyed the country for 60 years and has refused to do anything to lift it's

great people out of poverty. Gee, I wonder why they all love Americans and Canadians and want to come to the USA/Canada?

You'll twist and concoct anything to support your ridiculous arguments.

Quick question Cubs. How many time have you been to Cuba? If not, why not?

Oh, you got me there Cwericb - I should acknowledge that YOU are the expert on Cuba.

So go ahead - tell me about that great healthcare system or how well the communist regime has executed.

You're the policy and humanitarian expert - tell me how Cuba is not a failed state?

That will shut me up!

You forgot to blame De Blasio.

Cuba was one of 24 countries in the region meant to receive the donations announced on March. 21 by the Jack Ma Foundation, which is sending similar aid to countries around the world, including the United States.

De Balsio?

He's your hero, not mine.  NYC, CV hotspot of the nation.

But hey, your mayor won't allow xenophobia and panic - no sir - "go about your lives normal, nothing to worry about here, ride that subway as usual"

Thanks for the warning Mr. Mayor

How do you fake a fever and body aches? ie make yourself have a fever? Again we are in a worldwide pandemic right? Very likely many, many have had it.

Now that you mention it what "sort of a flu" other then influenza do you think would be causing this symptoms, again during a world wide pandemic with a novel virus? Not challenging just wondering  your line of thinking.

The reason you haven’t been to Cuba Cubs is because you are not allowed to go there by your government. On the other hand a Cuban can leave Cuba - I can send you photos of a couple who have visited us if you like. Now which is the free country?

Having just returned from Cuba and having made numerous trips there over the past 20 years and having made numerous friends there, I think I just might know a little more about the situation there than do you.

Unlike the US they have free education and have free medical care. They have excellent doctors and in fact, send doctors all over the world for humanitarian reasons. The problem with their health care system is that the US has blocked their access to equipment and medicine. Nice guys, eh.

So now Trump has decided to class Canada like Cuba and has ordered 3M not to supply N95 masks to Canada.

Defend that.

I am totally disgusted with the US Federal Govt and CDC.   Complete incompetence.

I think commonsense says wearing masks massively lowers the virus droplets in and out and the CDC and WHO fucked up bigtime.

I am still surprised by the huge mistake they made.  It is inexcusable.

This is why you should always, always do your own research on ANYTHING to get to the truth.

Now I know you are a real joke - now tell me that Cuba is not a failed state, but the tyrannical USA is!

But thanks much for the history and freedom lesson Cwericb. After all, you are the policy expert on Cuba!

As usual Cubs, you avoid the questions.

Long Haul I agree. It only makes sense to wear masks. There are thousands of people who have the virus and do not know it yet. If they wore masks it would go a long way to reducing the spread. What's the downside? But when the guy in charge makes light of it ...

Here in Iceland there have been tests made by random sampling of the population. Based on random sampling, around 0.3%  of the population tests positive. Obviously, this is not representative for other countries or populations. In Iceland most of the effort has gone to tracing infections and quarantining people who have been in contact with infected people. By now, over 50% of people who test positive are already in quarantine when tested.

Not trying to pick a fight or get in the middle here but isnt Fidel Castro at least a little bit more to blame then Donald Trump in regards to the current situation of the people in Cuba? He has a pretty gnarly record of human rights issues.

This should be mandatory reading for everyone in the world.

A+ article by CNN

"In the 1918 flu pandemic, not wearing a mask was illegal in some parts of America. What changed?"

Please forward this article to everyone and post it everywhere to get the message out - it may save a life - perhaps your own.

I in no way am defending the government of Cuba.

But punishing the PEOPLE of Cuba with the U.S. blockade is

A) inhumane and

B) forces Cuba to rely on China and Russia for their needs - what choice do they have?

After 60 years shouldn't it have ocured to someone that it is has not worked?
