BG2008
I know there are a few people who are engineers and or work in industrial plants here. Does anyone work in the metal coating/powder coating/galvanizing business? Why would someone choose galvanizing over powder coating?
Spekulatius
^ You can create a shiny metal surface with galvanizing; Powder coating can’t do that. Galvanizing allows you to put down a smooth continuous and decorative metal layer on a conducting surface ( mostly other metals) while powder coating can put down a compound on any surface that is sufficiently heat resistant and has chemical adherence between the substrate and the coating materials. Pelagic
Powder coating might hide issues like stress fractures or oxidation that would be immediately apparent on galvanized metal.
BG2008
Is there any risk that the steel manufacturers can bring the galvanizing inhouse? The margins are much better at 21-23% for galvanizing.
