Parsad
It's the era of the Carnegies, Rockerfellers, Astors and Vanderbuilts, all over again! Thank you to Bill Gates and Warren Buffett (including the Late Susan Buffett), on how capitalism can truly change the world and emancipate our humanity. Cheers! http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/billionaires-pledge-billions-to-charity/article1661467/
shalab
The biography of Doris Buffett "Giving it All Away: The Doris Buffett Story" - is fascinating and easy to read. I give this book higher marks than snowball.
biaggio
"Warren Buffett Deserves A Noble Peace Prize" according to article at gurufocus....http://www.gurufocus.com/news.php?id=102248. WEB may be a better candidate than some of the recent Nobel Peace Prize winners? I think when we read stories of these guys giving away their fortunes I am sure we all think how we can be more charitable.
turar
Not to sound negative, but pledging is quite different from actually delivering on the promise, as evidenced by pledges of aid to Haiti after the earthquake. Not talking about Buffett or Gates, but some of those pledges raise my BS/PR alarms.
ERICOPOLY
I suppose in some cases half of that money is being given by the taxpayers -- it's money that otherwise would have been collected in estate taxes, so the drop in revenue will need to come out of somebody's hide. So all US taxpayers can feel like they've given something with this announcement :)
