constructive
And the big one drops: http://investors.level3.com/investor-relations/press-releases/press-release-details/2014/Level-3-to-Acquire-tw-telecom/default.aspx http://www.telecomramblings.com/2014/06/level-3-drops-big-one-buy-tw-telecom/ http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-06-16/level-3-agrees-to-buy-tw-telecom-in-5-7-billion-deal.html So the deal is 3/4 stock. LVLT's stock looks cheaper than TWTC: 1.6x sales and 11x cash flow compared to 3.4x sales and 15x cash flow. But of course TWTC deserves a higher valuation as their historical operating performance is far superior to LVLT. Do you think giving up so much equity is a good deal for LVLT? Have you ever owned TWTC or analyzed it before this acqusition?

The 100+ messages by the readers of the blog and Mark Taylor's responses to them are enlightening. The incumbents engage in so much obfuscation, don't they? Level (3)'s indignation comes from the fact that both Comcast and Verizon ride on their network thru those DF leases. I'd be mightily pissed as a landlord when new tolls keep getting erected by my own tenants! The timing of this blog can't be coincidental with the ongoing net neutrality comment period, can it ;) There were well over 1 million comments at the FCC website. Level (3)'s blog should be like the proverbial expert witness who provides scientific evidence of the DNA match!
Guest longinvestor
New chapter in 3's history; underpromise and overdeliver. That's the third qtr in a row. After 50 plus quarters. Don't know of another stock that's done anything like this. Anyone know?

brker_guy
longinvestor, The shareholders of LVLT have been suffering for too much and too long. So, it's nice to see that we have finally turned the corner on a dime. I think Crowe did too much promising but little on the delivery. With Storey, we have the opposite problem: very little on promise but heavy on the delivery... It's another nice quarter and nice to see we almost hit $50 this AM. BTW: I think you might like this letter from MLB who is LVLT's customer to the FCC: http://qz.com/241250/the-best-argument-yet-for-net-neutrality-comes-from-major-league-baseball/

(3) has guided 250-300 FCF for 2014 and appears on target to beat. On the IV message board where (3) is actively discussed, the resident numbers expert, "notrom" best captures the virtuous cycle of increasing cash flows at (3); NOL's, Interest expense reductions, margin expansion etc. http://www.investorvillage.com/smbd.asp?mb=444&mn=124874&pt=msg&mid=13792504 This is before the pending TWTC merger. Although they have not provided guidance for the longer term, FCF is expected to accelerate non-linearly (rapidly). Just took a long time. Fine by me! txlaw
It looks like Twitch uses LVLT as one of its major CDN providers. In fact, Twitch users have complained in the past about how their ISPs were making Twitch slow by refusing to pay to upgrade the peering connections with CDN providers like LVLT. Does this mean a strengthened relationship with AMZN? Does this mean AMZN will start throwing its weight into the fight about peering disputes and "net neutrality"? Let's hope so. brker_guy
On and off as a shareholder, 12 full years of suffering for me. I am glad the ship is turning around at LVLT. Guest longinvestor
On October 6th, the poison pill provision expires. 5% shareholders can buy more. The stock has moved into the hard-to-borrow status. Now, if this eerie similarity to FFH's stock some 10 years ago means a short squeeze, can't wait for something like that. My single largest realized gain of my lifetime came via FFH. At least until now, with LVLT lurking.

I too have been holding (and periodically adding a little as it sold off ) over the past 10 years or so. My best to you and the many other generous contributors to the COBF board . greenwave
txlaw
I've only been holding for a couple of years (first tranche bought at $15, adjusting for reverse split). So I missed out on the pain a lot you guys suffered! ;D Let's continue to keep this thread quiet. Good luck will come of it, I think.

Just for grins browsed thru the 147 pages of this message board. Some history, ha. I've learned a ton myself from this ownership. Its all about what's between the ears. Mine, that is. I am glad it worked out for you and us in general. It has been a long painful process of waiting for sure.... TxLaw and Longinvestor, I couldn't agree more about being the quiet part. That's why I hadn't posted on this subject much since I have decided last year after Crowe being removed from his CEO post to pretty put this position in autopilot mode. To borrow that title from Guy Spier's new book, this LVLT position is a fine example of "The Education of a Value Investor" for me...

Guest longinvestor
see -you guys talk about level 3 and the price drops... shhhhhhhhhhhhh please.... For the.longest time with LVLT, price drops was agony. Any buys I made was always too early. Of course in hindsight. For the first time, I'm enjoying pullbacks without any underlying biz reason at (3). Imagine that. The current pullback is arguably over TWTC. Storey's first M&A, which he will execute well. Guest longinvestor
Interesting days ahead with Obama going loudly public in the net neutrality affair. Calling out for transparency in the interconnect agreements between carriers is music to the ears of LVLT and heresy to the incumbents. Shall we say "Bring it on!"
