The next broadband battle: AT&T/Dish and Verizon/Cable

The business model for standalone wholesale wireless network operators, such as LightSquared or what Clearwire hoped to be, is broken. But in the coming year, a new and ultimately more successful model is poised to emerge, one that will transform the entire communications landscape as we know it, and pit Verizon and cable TV on one side against AT&T and satellite TV on the other.

It looks like Level 3 will be rubbing shoulders with billionaire Carlos Slim, America Movil, in Brazil. IP Fiber optic networks are a billionaire's game. This isn't no little steak & ale business that Canadian posters like to make jokes about.

Happy New Year, Guys!  Haven't been around for a few weeks...  So, here are something to share with you guys:

http://vator.tv/news/2012-01-04-netflixs-20m-members-streamed-2b-hours-in-2011-q4

"As Netflix continues to wrangle the conversation on its future, the video viewing and rental company announced that more than two billion hours of content was viewed from its site in the fourth quarter of 2011."

As for Roku, we have this news:

http://allthingsd.com/20120104/roku-to-launch-cordless-streaming-stick-for-smart-tvs/

"The connected TV category is forecast to grow at a 30 percent compound annual rate between now and 2014 — up to more than 123 million shipments, according to a report from DisplaySearch earlier this year. The report also predicts continued complexity in the market, with a variety of streaming video services available to consumers, and tech giants like Apple, Google, and Microsoft — in addition to smaller companies like Roku and Boxee — offering boxes for streaming Internet media."

Cheers!

Level (3) has built The Matrix for their 1000 person strong selling army, one which will use an IPAD to point at an "ENTERPRISE BUILDING" in any community, letting them know the building CONTENTS as though they grew up there, enabling them to SELL, SELL, SELL, like NEVER in the HISTORY of the TELECOM now converted to INTERNET WORLD.

It is my contention that buying IPADS must be contingent about selling broadband and streaming services to IPAD's owner, APPLE, as soon as possible so T.V. in the home or on any device accelerates to a new LEVEL, yes, LEVEL (3) ENABLED or LEVEL (3) INSIDE.

Hooray for BOLLYWOOD! The Indian influence inside of this ENTERPRISE is beginning to be utilized. Watsa, etal are OPENING up the PIPES once SUNK into the GROUND by the sweat and toil of exploited Indian laborers which once was "Global Corruption," and is now Global Crossing embedded INSIDE BIG (3). Mr. Manipulator, the criminal cabal of operators mostly here in the U.S. with global tentacles and connections, of course, is mad, jealous and unwilling to give Big Prem a BREAK AWAY still! How the digital divide has progressed in ten short years as a result of forward thinkers in The city of Danville, located on the banks of the Dan River in the Southside region of Virginia.

http://www.bbpmag.com/MuniPortal/EditorsChoice/1111editorschoice.php

THE TURNAROUND

In just a decade, Danville has gone from having the highest unemployment in the state of Virginia (19 percent at its peak) to attracting national attention as an excellent small city with a low cost of living, world-class technology infrastructure, revitalized downtown livework spaces and a workforce trained to meet the needs of today’s high-tech businesses.

----As nDanville grew to connect more than 150 businesses, the economy began to rebound as well. The most visible results of the network are the new companies and jobs that have come to Danville in the past two years, capping 10 years of planning, investment and collaboration. The reuse and renovation of the White Mill Building and the new workers that it will bring is expected to have a dramatic effect on downtown businesses. The availability of nDanville fiber at the location was the deal maker.

3. Jim Crowe: We’re a company that’s going to be generating a significant amount of cash.

Today, the combined operation has “about $37 billion invested in our global network”, he says. “That’s the original investment in the two companies and the acquired companies.”

It seems LVLT is always a company that 'will' be generating significant amounts of cash.  At some point shareholders want ownership in a company that 'is' generating significant amounts of cash.  Is anyone more patient than Valuecarl or BenGraham?

Roughly 7.5 biz days from our "loss report," and The Cabal of short miscreants begin their off pitch chorus. Their arguments and data are stupid as well as inaccurate,  but it does not matter in the Wacky World of Wall Street Miscreants. It's a form of NAZISM from which they derive their playbook, or is it their music sheets?  >:(

Of course, I wish I didn't have to say, "LOSS REPORT," for the rest of Big (3)'s life cycle. That will continue to rest on the size and frequency of MILITARY/GOVT. contracts!

The Berkshire Hathaway - DirecTV & Level 3 Communications Connection all started from 1999.

                                                        "I'll report - You decide"

Mr. Combs spent about US$1.24-billion accumulating positions in seven companies in first three quarters of 2011, according to the data from filings distributed by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. The holdings of CVS, Intel, Dollar General, MasterCard, Visa Inc., General Dynamics Corp. and DirecTV were valued at about US$1.41-billion at year-end.

DirecTV, the largest U.S. satellite-TV provider, was one of Mr. Weschler’s stock picks at his Charlottesville, Virginia-based, Peninsula Capital Advisors LLC. Berkshire said in September it was hiring Weschler, a marathoner who also invested in W.R. Grace & Co. and made a gain trading Bank of America Corp. shares.

“I found it fascinating that Todd Combs purchased DirecTV,” said MR. Kass. “It sort of implies that Todd Combs is in agreement with Ted Weschler” on the stock, he said.

Level 3 Communications will provide a national fiber backbone to support DirecTV's ambitious high-definition television expansion plans.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but Level 3 will supply bandwidth and data center services and upgrade DirecTV's backbone to support and aggregate HDTV signals from local markets for rebroadcast to the DBS provider's customers. Going back to a deal first agreed to in 1999, Level 3 already provides a "substantial portion" of DirecTV's existing private line backbone for standard-definition video services.

Initially, DirecTV has tapped Level 3 to provide HD support in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco. It's expected that DirecTV will use Level 3's network and colocation services in 15 additional cities.

DirecTV, which has already tapped Tandberg Television to supply encoders for the early phases of its hi-def expansion, announced plans last year to tap an array of new satellites to offer hundreds of local HD channels and about 150 national HD channels.

If Howard Hughes were alive today, Ben Graham, he would have been describing "broadband" like I have been for more than a decade in order to RHYME with his name, that being, "It's the wave of the future, it's the wave of the future, it's the wave of the future!"

Fortunately for us, our "factory margins" are superior so that when our revenues accelerate, we will not resemble the abysmal results of Howard's "commercial airline" dreams.

With this in mind, "The Wave of the Future" is here today, so "BRING IT ON" starting February 8th without further delay! "We don't sell COTTON CANDY," you know!

I do have a question for you this morning, however.

What are the odds that this new Buffett fund mgr., Todd Combs, has EXITED STAGE LEFT from that criminal cabal of INTERNET FREE LOADERS aiding and abetting CONTENT PIRATES over at Cogent Communications(CCOI), the King of Pornography X the globe, which his holding had only come about "serendipity" in ADVANCE of the FBI RAID to ONE of its CORE CUSTOMERS?

Certainly, The Buffett Factor tied to Walter Scott Jr. should have alerted him of what the ramifications might be for bedding down with those pack of WOLVES!  >:(

The odds are strongly in favor that Ted Weschler will not include Cogent Communications (CCOI) in Berkshire Hathaway's portfolio, like he did in his Hedge Fund :

http://www.bullfax.com/?q=node-what-berkshires-new-manager-ted-weschler-holds-his-hedg

If Ted is the value investor who knows how to spot a bargain, that we think he is, Walter Scott doesn't need to say a word. Level 3 is written all over the Berkshire headquarters - Kiewit Plaza in Omaha, U.S.A.

Walter Scott Jr. built Level 3 so, Todd Combs & Ted Weschler can allocate all the future free cash flows that O. Mason Hawkins likes to talk about.

It is also nice to see Prem Watsa have a desire to sit on RIMM's board to facilitate with the development & innovation of the device that has a screen to deliver LVLT content. We have the Buffett of the North taking care of the "device end" on this Great End to End Level 3 Network.

Now, we just need the wireless guys to ramp 4G and learn how to allocate spectrum properly - efficiently. Then the content boys will come on board to satisfy all those hungry end user eyeballs. Like the up coming Super Bowl streamed live online. "This is The Wave of the Future"

Howard Hughes was known to say LVLT  pigs can fly!    ;)

Thank you, Ben Graham. I see I was a little bit dyslexic in that it would have been TED talk and not TODD talk in entertaining that "serendipity" investment in Cogent Communications, now under the FBI's radar screen for investigation.

http://www.ted.com/talks

As soon as that right hand man and Cramer Connected Clown from San Diego, Herb Greenberg, was pumping Schaeffer's Cogent, I knew that my suspicions about EVIL LURKING all along were correct.

http://video.cnbc.com/gallery/?video=3000046145

Oh, speaking of that dubious operator who once found it appropriate to write "BULL" on an SEC subpoena, he's demanding "positive cash flow" before becoming a PIED PIPER like he was in 06/07 again. As I said back then, I will say it out loud again, we will do better without that Criminal Cramer TOUTING our name!

Microsoft has a way to implement efficient allocation and use of spectrum for all mobile and wireless communication systems. Let's hope the Bells use Spark to light up their 4GLTE network, so Level 3 can deliver huge amounts of pent up bandwidth and start a wild fire explosion of live streaming video over the Internet.

http://research.microsoft.com/pubs/101646/hotmobile06.pdf

Microsoft Research

Abstract

With the increased demands for wireless spectrum, dynamic spectrum sharing is emerging as an important and powerful concept. Most research in this domain is being conducted in design of cognitive radios and on specific PHY and MAC layer challenges associated with them. However, for a dynamic spectrum sharing architecture to be viable, research is needed to resolve many other challenges, e.g., in the context of real-time spectrum management and enforcement. This paper is the first to present a study of some such important architectural considerations, driven by our ongoing design and implementation of a spectrum sharing system, called Spark. We propose some promising approaches to address these challenges, and enumerate the need and opportunities for significant future research in this domain.

(NYSE: LVLT) today announced it will provide live, high definition (HD) television broadcast video services to NBC for Super Bowl XLVI on Feb. 5, using Level 3's Vyvx VenueNet+ technology. The Super Bowl is the most-watched television event of the year. Last year's broadcast was viewed by more than 110 million people, according to The Nielson Co.

Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis is connected directly to Level 3's advanced fiber-optic network, giving NBC the ability to acquire and broadcast the game without having to build or manage its own network. "For more than 20 years, Level 3 has provided the critically important broadcast backbone needed to deliver the Super Bowl to viewers around the country," said Mike Meehan, senior vice president of Sports Network Operations at NBC. "A television event like this, which continues to set viewership records every year, leaves no room for error. Level 3's Vyvx VenueNet+ service provides us with the performance, reliability and simplicity we need to ensure a successful broadcast."

In addition to delivering the game, Level 3 will also carry the pre-game and post-game feeds to NFL operations centers in Mt. Laurel, N.J., Culver City, Calif. and NFL Network master control facilities in Atlanta, as well as other broadcast networks and satellite teleport sites for global distribution.

"The Super Bowl is the preeminent sports event in the country, and the fact that Level 3 has delivered the game for nearly a quarter century is a testament to the level of trust the NFL and broadcasters have in us to provide exceptional service," said Mark Taylor, vice president of Content and Media at Level 3. "We know reliability is crucial when broadcasting live video from a sports venue, which is why we continue to focus on every aspect of our delivery to ensure a flawless viewing experience."

Level 3's Vyvx VenueNet+ technology is engineered to provide unparalleled HD and SD digital video services, with added HD and SD encoding, high-speed Internet and phone support. The technology is used in all 31 major professional football venues across the country.

Level 3's customer, FACEBOOK, may debut with a $100B market cap while LVLT's nearly $40B sunk costs in PP&E following fourteen years of investment is barely valued at $4B!

You can't make this stuff up unless you are criminal operators including GOLDMAN along with talking heads Herb Greenberg. There should be LAWS against who and how PRICES are made in this market by these DEN of THIEVES. I attempted to ask Charles T. Munger that question yesterday, but he probably didn't have sufficient time to delve as deeply as I wanted him to regarding "market makers, supply demand factors," but most importantly, which men behind the curtains have absolute say in FIXING PRICE! I no longer believe in free markets, rather, I fully subscribe to FIXED MARKETS by Mr. Manipulator, many times a criminal and dictator at his core.  >:(
