Parsad
Chicago Sun-Times columnist Mark Brown threatens to put out negative articles against Steak'n Shake if Sardar doesn't cave to his request for a Steak'n Shake in Chicago. Another great article on the chain, following the stellar blog article by Roger Ebert earlier this year! A cult-like following is slowly brewing. Hopefully Sardar grows it like See's Candies over time. Cheers! http://www.suntimes.com/news/brown/1500402,CST-NWS-brown29.article
Guest misterstockwell
I don't get the fascination here with SnS. I live where they are plentiful, and after taking the kids there a couple times, haven't been back(and won't). It's fast food, slowly. I don't need a waiter for burger and fries. I looked at it long ago as an investment, and passed after visiting several. I thought the concept flawed. Not quite fast food, not quite a restaurant. I'll watch though--I wish the best for those who own it.
Parsad
It may be a nostalgia thing. People who grew up with the Steakburger, probably had fond childhood memories of eating there with their family. I don't really like In&Out and have never had a Steakburger, but I do have fond memories of the restaurants I used to go to as child...including fast food restaurants. I remember the old drive-ins at A&W, with the rickety speaker box where you order after you park your car. I remember the tray hanging from the windows, and the frosted mugs that the rootbeer came in. I remember standing in the front seat between my Mom and Dad as a six-year old chomping away at my little burger. It was the greatest thing in the world at the time! Even when I go to A&W now, and it has changed considerably. I can't help but remember those days while drinking rootbeer out of a frosted mug...they still do that here in Vancouver. Or their burgers coming in the little tinfoil wrapping. A friend of mine just had the Steak'n Shake chilli and thought it wasn't very good. Yet, that is one of their best sellers. I still prefer to eat at A&W compared to any of the other fast-food burger joints. Chalk it up to nostalgia. Cheers!

Parsad
Hi Jack, There's plenty of posts on here regarding Steak'n Shake and Western Sizzlin. Please use the "Search" feature on the top of the webpage. If you go to our old archives as well (http://msnbrkboardarchive.multiply.com/), there are even more posts and discussions on Steak'n Shake. Thanks very much!
ragnarisapirate
Can someone explain to me why steak N shake keeps coming up on this board? Is there an inside joke that I'm missing here? Yours Jack River Steak n' Shake is a great example of a value stock that not only meets quantitative standards, but also qualitative... granted, that statement can be up for debate, but a lot of us see value in it. I think that another reason is that Sardar Biglari has taken on an activist position in 3 companies, and done so with a relativity small amount of money...
