portfolio14
Two M2M- and Internet of Things-related articles in the WSJ today. One on heart care devices that send data across the web. One on GE's big push for the Internet of Things and M2M and a new report they just released. See GE report at http://files.gereports.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/ge-industrial-internet-vision-paper.pdf And Information Week on GE's report: http://www.informationweek.com/global-cio/interviews/what-ges-15-trillion-industrial-internet/240142639 rimm management has not mentioned one word about this new business in the last 2 conference calls. :) Good point. Well spotted. But we know how well RIMM communicates. (e.g. Half a year ago, when they showcased the BB10 platform, they gave everyone the impression there would no longer be a model with QWERTY keyboard.) Let's see what RIM unveils in the next few months. I'm sure their strategic advisors have been helpful in this regard. Also, that conference article I pointed to shows that they are starting to discuss this aspect of why their assets could be worth a good amount. And, btw, your post about IBM's interest in this aspect of RIM's assets was spot on, as IBM intends to be a big player in M2M and the Internet of Things. Rimm itself is constantly degrading our society, just as rust constantly acts upon iron? I'm not sure I get what you want it to mean at all. meiroy
Had a business lunch the other day with a couple of guys, one of them being the owner, they both had two BBs each due to the type of their business; somehow the conversation turned into apple/BB and friends. The reason they are still using BB is because they are not interested in spending the time to learn something new. They have been using it for years, it fulfills its purpose. That's it. cwericb
You gotta question why “rimm_never_sleeps” devotes such an inordinate amount of time trashing the company. Obviously he doesn't own RIM shares. But he takes a user name with RIM in it. His avatar contains a picture of RIM’s founders. He never has anything positive to say about the company and searches the web for negative articles to quote. So you have to question the motivation. My guess is that he has a personal axe to grind with RIM. Then I see that rimm_never_sleeps is from Waterloo, Ontario - coincidentally the home of RIM’s head offices. I like to hear both sides of the story about any investment, but when someone goes out of his way to post negative information about a company for personal reasons, his objectivity and motive is suspect. One would suspect that rimm_never_sleeps, or someone close to him is probably a former employee of RIM who has some very strong feelings about the company. Well Uccmal, I am young, but I was On The Beach and I saw Cortez The Killer coming with a Powderfinger, and it looked Like an Hurricane. I said to my love: “See The Sky About To Rain”, she answered: “Don’t Let It Bring You Down”, I said: “Tell Me Why”, she answered: “because you are a Soldier and I Am The Ocean”, and I said: “I Believe In You”. ;D giofranchi

This is actually a reason I agree with; when you get used to something you hold on until it really doesn't make sense. They'll move on eventually. The new stuff RIMM is coming out with will be just as uninteresting to them, and there's no reason to go with a minority provider.

One would suspect that rimm_never_sleeps, or someone close to him is probably a former employee of RIM who has some very strong feelings about the company. you got to wonder why cwericb made this post. at least I do. what really motivates him? I mean now he is trying to make this about personalities instead of the ideas presented. He's from Canada. I wonder if he works at Rimm, or if he has family members who work at rimm? I wonder if he has a large investment in rimm, and now seeks to protect it? I don't have a position. He wants to cast aspersions on anybody who might have something negative to say about this investment. He seems to have strong feelings about the company, enough so that he feels the need to come to it's defense against a harmless anonymous poster on the Internet. You have to be emotionally invested to let some anonymous poster with an audience in the tens offend you. what's up with his motivation? what would cause him to make a post like that which draws attention away from the company under discussion and over to the person raising the issues? I keep going back to the idea that maybe he currently works at rimm. He is from Canada after all. I am not. I just like to put little flags up saying I am. :)

stahleyp
rimm never sleeps, why don't you tell us why you hate rimm so much, beyond its investment merits? I mean, you try to post any negative thing you can find about it and you even created your name with it...it goes beyond a normal short, I would think. I don't hate rimm. that's a very un-useful emotion. There was a very bullish Canadian bias on rimm in this forum. it hurt quite a lot of people. I think people should have both sides and all the information available so that they don't get pulled in by sentimentality, emotions, and guru cloning. all I do is post my opinion and facts and opinions from others I find valuable. the reader can determine whether it's useful or not. perhaps you are the one with emotions tied up in rimm and not me? perhaps you are the one who takes this all too seriously? I mean do you not understand that my name is simply a Gag? that the picture is a gag? that the flag is a gag? it means absolutely nothing. yet you attach some great meaning to it all. I have no position in the security though I reserve the right to take one in the future. And I say many positive things about companies that are doing well and doing the right things. I never said anything bad about WEB. If you follow me, and it appears you do, you will notice that I write short posts and long posts on many many different threads covering many different topics. now you may say you think everything I post is garbage and not worth reading. But I must ask then, why do you bother and waste your precious time?
