I realize you've been in Silicon Valley for over 15 years or something like that, and that you went to B-school and whatnot, and that you have an RSS feed where you subscribe to a gazillion tech related sites and blogs, but something tells me you're not an expert in data and communications security.

As for the point about data efficiency, I was simply pointing out that that would be an additional reason for why there is value in RIM's network infrastructure.  I wasn't trying to wriggle out of anything.

Would you care to tell us what % of mobile traffic is M2M?

The National Transportation Safety Board, which investigates plane accidents, disclosed its plan to switch to Apple Inc. (AAPL)’s iPhone 5 in a document posted last week to a federal website. The BlackBerrys have been “failing both at inopportune times and at an unacceptable rate,” according to the NTSB’s notice.

This is bad news. Each time RIMM loses an enterprise account, it sends a chill down my spine.

But it seems the world is focusing on Jeffco analyst Peter Misek's upgrade.

interesting comment from communities dominate.

bada - 5.2 million smartphones, 3% market share

And Samsung's bada is a very rare animal at most Western markets, perhaps with the exception of France but is doing brisk sales in places like Russia and India. This OS was launched at the same time as the highly visible Windows Phone two years ago, and quietly, targeting low-cost customers, only powered by Samsung brand, where the primary Samsung effort went to Android, this little engine that could has totally bested Microsoft's effort, even where Nokia was brought in to put the best Lumia effort to sell Windows Phone. bada holds a steady 3% market share globally, as Samsung is preparing to do the first launches of its new OS, Tizen, developed with Intel and which is expected to take over or be merged with the bada project. First Tizen smartphones are expected to be out in early 2013 and one of the early prototype handsets is, no surprise here, a port of the Galaxy S3 to Tizen. Tizen also has many global operator/carrier groups supporting it, so if you ever thought what the carriers meant when they said they wanted a new platform to rival Android and iOS, they were not talking about Windows, they were talking about Tizen. So who are those operators supporting Tizen then? Telefonica, Sprint, Vodafone, Orange, NTT DoCoMo, SK Telecom.. Plus manufacturers part of Tizen alliance include Panasonic, NEC and Huawei. Do not dismiss this challenger for next year...

He also said there is a 60% chance rimm could be a zero. but that wasn't the headline. ;)

Is someone here covering today?

smazz,...

not sure, if I would cover them yet,... well,... if I would own them (yeah, quite honestly, my opinion shouldn't count much, since I don't own RIMM directly,... only indirectly through FFH), but I personally wouldn't cover them yet. The psychological positive vacuum should persist over the next 2 1/2 months until we see the first actual opinions from consumers. But please don't follow my thoughts,...they might be foolish. I was some weeks away, and was only following loosely the board in the last week again.

Herb Greenberg says RIM is "uninvestable".  His hedge fund buddies must still be short.  He always looks sweaty and nervous.

I met him in real life after the first Value Investing Congress, and he was sweating profusely then too as I grilled him about his articles on Fairfax.  I believe he may have some sort of hormonal issue...thus the abnormal perspiration, as well as the stupid things that come out of his mouth!  ;D  Cheers!

international markets following N/A markets lower. rimm USA share at 1.6%.

http://bgr.com/2012/11/27/blackberry-market-share-2012-analysis/

"The Kantar autumn numbers in these markets are brutal. BlackBerry’s share tanked from 24% to 3% in Spain in just one year. RIM’s share is also down from 9% to 3% in Brazil and down from 16% to 7% in France."
