Guest wellmont
lg buys webos assets from hpq. apparently does not license bb10 from bbry. can't beat open source and free when you need software for a low margin product that is part of the Internet of Things. Try though it might, Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) just can’t seem to kill Palm’s legacy. With Samsung (005930) dominating the Android market and Google (GOOG) getting ready to finally make serious use of its $12.5 billion Motorola buy, LG (066570) is seemingly looking to hedge its Android bet. CNET on Monday confirmed that LG has acquired the webOS source code along with ”related documentation, engineering talent, and related webOS websites” from HP. The vendor reportedly only has plans to use the operating system on smart TVs, but as we’ve learned numerous times in the past, nothing is set in stone when it comes to webOS. ---bgr http://allthingsd.com/20130225/webos-finds-new-life-yet-again-this-time-in-lg-televisions/?mod=tweet

EdWatchesBoxing
Hey Smazz, Do you have a z10? I've found that the browser makes up for the lack of apps. At least, for the way I use it. The hub is a very useful feature.

I have the playbook and though from what I hear the Z10s browser is a lot better than the Playbooks so when 10 gets ported over to me, if it *hope* it does before I get a Z = actually before I get the Q. I rather have the Q and hope to get it soon. Anyway, even on the playbook I find that all the hype about the app when you can do everything on the browser is rediculous and just that, hype. Im not sure if it was here or crackberry but some one was complaining about banking APPS???? Are you (they) kidding? I go through the browser for my banking its awesome on the Pb. Where a company/site will not provide access through the PB browser and obviously wont have the app yes thats a problem but no problem at all if you can get it through browser. There are quite a few applications/websites i prefer to use the browser rather than the dedicated apps. To me, the biggest hype is skype and maybe netflix. Skype? does everyone live in their parents garage? Netflix? I dont get it there are so many other providers of what they provide if thats what you want. Aberhound
http://www.sec.gov/cgi-bin/own-disp?action=getissuer&CIK=0001124610 The short thesis on vic for VMWare provided a good example of buying during a successful short attack. The stock dropped over 20% soon after the short thesis was published then the 80% owner ramped up its stock repurchases, probably to keep its employees happy. Now the stock is within 5% of where it started. The short thesis failed to consider that a drop in prices will cause demand to explode in a sector where demand is growing rapidly and overestimated how rapidly a cheaper alternative will take market share. Cheap alternatives never hurt Microsoft much. BBRY is similar but much longer term. The shorts successfully argued platform collapse. Prem bought all the way to the bottom probably on the realization that the business niche where the competitors are weak and BBRY is strong is immensely valuable in an area of the economy with rapid growth. The platform collapse thesis is wrong if there is a niche that can be protected. I would love to know how much influence Prem had in product design in regards to strengthening and protecting the business niche. Could someone ask that question at the meetings? I love the people who have the guts to short. Somebody please take a run at Cisco. The virtualization software for networks is going to decimate their router business! (No it won't as both will grow)

The CIBC app is a link to its mobile site. I've only downloaded a flashlight and solitaire app. I have to say that I do miss the BB GO Transit app. I hope Ryerson U ports it to BB10. I actually don't miss the keypad too much with the z10. I've gotten used to the flicking up for word completion. BB10 on the PB should be really good. Hope it's ready soon. They don't have to pull out any BS. Everyone knows that beating the consensus estimate of a loss is bad, but beating it by making a profit is even worse. BBRY's demise is certain as a result of this news. In other news, Apple beat the street by 3 cents, market cap increases by billions. ;D

JEast
Yes, we still use the moniker RIM here -- but why is the WSJ still calling the company Research in Motion? Is not the WSJ publication supposed to be the voice of business? Just curious from a skeptical view. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887323501004578388072028654126.html?mod=WSJ_hp_mostpop_read
valueorama
Most intersting news for BBRY. Export development Canada(EDC) giving loan to telefonica to buy Blackberry devices!!! http://www.valuewalk.com/2013/04/research-in-motion-ltd-bbry-gets-a-boost-with-a-2nd-large-order/ I am a bit surprised but apparently EDC has done it before. I thought such thing happened to small firms.
