Guest valueInv
Ok let's talk valuation. I'm interested at 425 or below. Anybody else looking to buy? I bought some yesterday at $452. Will buy more if it drops to $425.
hardincap
On hardincap's comment the the 5c will be DOA in China: http://venturebeat.com/2013/09/17/apple-selling-out-iphone-5s-and-5c-pre-orders-in-china-with-the-magic-of-free/ Though, its an odd pricing model. umm, read the article. "Interestingly, the 5C does not appear to be nearly as constrained, with reservations still open and ship times of just one to two weeks."

hardincap
reference to bloomberg's statement that "reservations for Apple Inc.’s new iPhone 5C and 5S have passed 100,000 units since the devices were unveiled last week." wow, 100k for both phones ::). isnt that partly what caused the stock to fall 4% yesterday? (the answer is yes) btw this says nothing about distribution of s vs c. try again.
Guest wellmont
as a shareholder, i have to be honest and admit the launch looks to be a dud. and that includes Japan and China. the stock is down from the day before the announcement and takes in all the news since. and it was not an expensive stock either. but I am in it for the long haul and think aapl has something more up it's sleeve than fingerprint readers and colors! Perhaps when the #s roll in the launch will look better. :)
krazeenyc
as a shareholder, i must admit the launch is a dud. and that includes Japan and China. the stock is down from the day before the announcement and takes in all the news since. but I am in it for the long haul and think aapl has something more up it's sleeve than fingerprint readers and colors! Do you think sales of iphones in Q4 will be down from last years Q4? Iphones are being subsidized heavily in countries like the U.S. and Japan -- they are very very popular in these countries -- how does Apple take advantage of these subsidies and still offer a somewhat cheaper phone for emerging markets. (I tend to think Apple is a bit too global and known to create a phone dedicated to a specific market : China). Apple it seems is never going to compete in the $150 smartphone -- that's where the real growth is anyways -- how much additional growth in these emerging economies is Apple giving up by not having a $350 phones? I just read an article (i'll try to link both the article and the article with the stats when i can find them again) saying that Apple is too concerned with making great products -- instead of trying to capture market share. Based on most research I've read Apple iPhone owners have significantly higher loyalty (only 7% want to leave), whereas both Android (and Samsung owners) are significantly less loyal 23% + want to leave (ie they buy moreso on specs as opposed to loyalty/stickiness to the ecosystem) -- and most of those (18%) are looking to move to an iphone. Given this dynamic I expect Apple's share to continue growing in the U.S. and Japan as long as the make a great product. IMO, as everyone has said, the gap between the hardware features has shrunk over time. I think this shows you the true value of Apple's smartphone and tablet business is in the OS not in the hardware. I think Apple's opportunity in the enterprise is under appreciated (mainly via ios rather than osx). Anyone have any thoughts on this -- I think this can be a HUGE area of growth for Apple. I'm kicking myself for not adding more last time it was sub-400. I was waiting for ~$350 which never came. My cost basis right now is $453. Could be due to production issues/delays like we've seen in the past, compared to a lack of expected demand.

They have started the fingerprint sensor revolution. Check out the videos at the bottom: http://www.loopinsight.com/2013/09/17/review-iphone-5c-and-iphone-5s/ This is one of the tings I disagree with Cook on - they've changed their cadence to have a bunch of releases around the end of the year. Presumably to capture the holiday demand. However, they are never able to manufacture enough to keep up with demand and they end up frustrating users and leaving money on the table. They simply don't have the capacity. They need to space out their releases and keep their manufacturing lines even through the year. I think some of the newer product release should be timed around the April time frame like the iPad used to be.

Liberty
I had to retry a bunch of times to get my iPad to update, and my wife's iPhone is still - slowly - downloading iOS 7 (because I started her upgrade in the evening, when everybody came back from work at the same time in North-America and tried to update). I'm quite happy with it so far on my iPad. I'm not a typical user and had read a lot about it and seen videos, so it wasn't surprising. But it still feels more familiar than I expected, so I think most people will transition well. It's definitely a nice step forward; it's one of these things where you get used to it fairly quickly and it doesn't seem like a big deal until you try going back to the previous version on someone else's device and suddenly that looks like windows 95. Liberty
Sigh, just as my trigger finger was getting itchy. Not sure where I came up with a buy price of 425. I bought more in the past few days. I always keep Buffett's Walmart experience in mind with these things and don't try to milk a couple extra percents if I think it's already cheap enough. But of course, now that I've said this, it'll drop to 390, so you're welcome :D
