I have a 6S, and for probably the first time in the upgrade cycle, I really feel zero need to upgrade to a newer model. I'm guessing a lot of people feel this way as well.

While I'm glad I upgraded because I'm loving my new phone. I know that if I could have switched to xfinity mobile with my 6S I would have.  I was happy with my 6S and didn't feel the need to upgrade.  I just had to get off of T-Mobile and onto the Verizon network.  I finally have service in my house and neighborhood.  It is the first time I can drive around and not see "no service" pop up again and again and again.  If you live in New Hampshire you really need to be on the Verizon network, because none of the others are even close to sufficient.  So I was faced with a choice, bring my 6S to Verizon itself and pay a lot more for my service every month, or go to Xfinity and get a nice shiny new iPhone X and pay a lot less than what I was paying at T-Mobile for service.  I chose to give Apple the extra money rather than Verizon.  I hope to keep this new phone for 3-4 years.

Just got off the phone with my brother who has the X. He says the facial recognition is awesome, Apple is ahead of the curve. Notifications can be a cluster with touch id but he says they work really well with facial recognition.

Winter is coming. I'm guessing it would be nice to have a X with facial recognition while wearing gloves.

I updated to iOS 11.x in order to pair with Apple watch 3 & it has absolutely destroyed my 6 plus.

Laggy, buggy (ruined...)

Don't know if it's the 6+ or what, but Maps & Siri still suck out loud.

Just took a trip to St. Pete Beach & Siri still can't manage the simplest request for directions (speak a request & I hear the beep & then reverts back to home screen.)

This is nothing new but if I go off route & am still headed towards a destination, Siri stubbornly refuses to re-route (AI, really?)

Oh, and Siri still pronounces the names of some of my contacts incorrectly even after I've invoked Siri to call them on a daily basis (how hard can it be to say Odile?)

AI must stand for Awkward Intelligence.

I was running 11.x on my 6S for weeks before I upgraded my phone and I didn't notice any problems.  Although I don't use Apple's Maps app nor Siri.  Siri sucking is my biggest problem with Apple and IOS.  I've seen people talk into their Android phone and it just works. They can tell their phones to open apps, make calls, dictate text messages, Siri has never been able to do any of those things for me.  It's not just useless it's more than useless, its frustrating and makes you want to pick up your phone and throw it out the window.    I've been saving myself the stress, by not even trying to use Siri anymore.

As far as Maps goes, once you start using Waze you'll never go back to maps.  I use Waze every day, but haven't opened Maps app in a long time.

Gonna download Waze today.

I've been using Siri & Maps in hopes that it'd improve as the AI learned my behavior but alas, the intelligence is truly artificial.

Wish I could go back to iOS 10.x - must, upgrade, soon (probably after smashing my 6+ during a shit conversation with Siri.)

I live in Vermont, and it's generally the same thing in most areas.

I was just thinking that I haven't even tried Siri on my iPhone X yet.  Maybe its because I really like this phone and don't want to get angry at it. :)

My wife finds Waze is at last better than Google Maps here in the UK especially during her busy commute. We are both on modest Android phones now. Waze is a bit heavier on data usage (especially as Google Maps allows offline maps to speed things up and reroute even without a signal) but it seems to get better live traffic info a little earlier that Google Maps (which does grab some Waze info too), warns of delays ahead a little earlier, and isn't as reluctant to reroute via country lanes when there are hold-ups on more major roads. She also likes the voice better, even if its pronunciation isn't quite as good as Google's.

I do find the Google Apps ecosystem works really well for me on Android and using Chrome browser on PCs, synchronising well with my account, and was wondering how others got on if they used it within iOS. For example this article from 2015 tells you how to use the Google ecosystem in iOS (including the "OK Google" Google Assistant, being activated by a different command than Siri can presumably work alongside Siri) and also brings up one or two flaws. Google Voice was never available in my country, so I wouldn't know how bad it is - I just used Hangouts voice calls and video calls (and now also use WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger for some voice calls).  Google Now is another good one, and Google Trips can be pretty useful to supplement it. I also use Google Translate quite a bit.

I've found Waze is excellent at providing you with the fastest route.  The times I thought I knew better and didn't listen to it, I was very very sorry.  One time I was stuck for over an hour without moving with my engine shut off as they had the highway shut down ahead of me.  Had I taken the back roads which it suggested I'd have been much better off.  Now I just go whichever way it tells me to and it has saved me from traffic too many times to count.

Also it tells me when there is a cop ahead or other road hazards (like a bad pothole or roadkill in the road etc).  I have it open whenever I drive now just for those features alone.

Nice, now if they could just make Siri & Maps usable.

I just re-purchased a Bose SoundSport headset after the abysmal connectivity I experienced with the AirPods & am once again super happy with what's hanging out of my ears (and the around my neck convenience, instead of digging in a pocket to try & catch a call.)

Too bad Bose didn't have a streaming service...

The following linked Market Watch article seems a bit optimistic regarding Apple's AI hype, especially since Siri still can't pronounce "Odile" (she says "Odd-isle" instead of "O-deel") after years of me asking her to call this woman.

https://www.marketwatch.com/story/ai-in-2018-apple-is-acquiring-knowledge-but-results-may-take-a-while-2017-12-28

(may take a while, yeah, no shit...)

"Just as the Apple Watch is starting to tell people information they didn’t know to ask for, Siri must too get smarter and move from merely telling folks about appointments on their calendars. A smarter Siri will be able to think for you, to analyze your behaviors and remind you to do things you never thought you needed. It could one day tell you to decline an invitation to lunch at a particular restaurant because your Health app indicates you got heartburn there last time."

I'm still using an iPhone 6 Plus.

Is anyone with more up to date hardware getting better results from Siri?

---

All that said, I still think that healthcare is Apple's stealth grower.

I wish we'd hear about a partnership like this.

I've been thinking real hard about Apple for the past few months.

I'm seriously contemplating selling 3/4 of my shares & putting all the money in BRK.B on 2 Jan.

(the remaining AAPL shares would be "house money")

I figure u can get indirect exposure to Apple through Berkshire with better downside protection.

I sold 1/3 of my AAPL when it hit 160-ish and put the money into BRK.  :D
