Without mentioning competitors (Samsung), it’s clear the two executives think some of what passes for innovation is illusory at best. “We didn’t start opportunistically with 10 bits of technology that we could try to find a use for to add to our features list,” Ive says. Federighi jumps in: “New? New is easy. Right is hard.”
DCG
-I've had iOS7 beta on my phone for the last month or so, but my Facebook wall seems to be full of people saying 'iOS7 is awesome'. Also, I think (at least in my test this morning) they might've finally fixed the bug of music playing automatically (starting with what ever song is first in alphabetical order) every time you connect it to a car stereo). tengen
If I'm an iOS app developer, I don't think I want to hear Tim Cook dismiss the lower end of the market as a "junk business". IMO, it may not be important to Apple to sell iPhones to the lower end of the market but anything that potentially shrinks the app ecosystem is bad. rkbabang
Develop an an Android version. An app developer needs to only support 2 ecosystems to reach the vast majority of the smartphones out there. The reason IOS apps sell more than Android apps is that people inclined to spend more already use IOS. If Apple started catering to the lower end of the market, it would be attracting more people who wouldn't spend as much on apps and thus not be as valuable to you as the users who are already using IOS. However if you want to target these people they are already using Android, so you can target them yourself there if you wish.

App developers care about revenues and profits. If the spenders and early adopter are on iOS and it costs a lot more to support Android, then you're better off on iOS. CorpRaider
Fingers crossed that AAPL might be able to reach the critical mass for an install base to support app developers. I hear you get a free xbox for every app you develop for the windows store. I'm liking the apple radio. Makes it easy to impulse buy songs. Soon the thumb scan technology will make it easy to impulse buy Maseratis? Think goog and ASUS could pull this off?
Palantir
I'm thinking that the smartphone space is bifurcated into two groups - low and high end. At the high end, it's a split between GS and iPhone, and at the low end between WP and Android. Note, I didn't say that Android is a competitor at the high end, but specifically Samsung. On the high end, Apple's biggest issue has got to be screen size. Normally, Apple's model is based on the fact that users prefer Apple over other OEMs giving them the room to charge higher prices, but in the HE market, a significant portion of people who could comfortably afford Apple are choosing not to go with it, in large part due to the larger screen (as Sanjeev has noted), and that is a threat to their BM. There are a lot of problems with releasing a larger screen, but I think Apple is going to fix this next year with the iPhone 6. A 4.5/+ inch iPhone would throw a spanner into Samsung. At the LE, many buyers are first time buyers who are switching from feature phones, so their needs are very different from HE buyers - they're not as interested in apps, a powerful camera is less important, they want a device that is cheap, fast, and does what they need. I think WP has a significant advantage over Android at the LE - they're running the latest releases, as opposed to Android, whose LE phones may be running 2-3 year operating systems, they look a lot better, and in the case of the Lumia 5, they're very cheap. I think Android could potentially get squeezed from both directions here.

Palantir
In his biography, Jobs talked about how integrating biology with computers was the next frontier. Here, in the iPhone 5S, Apple is starting to head there with its fingerprint scanner and the motion coprocessor. They're hiring medical device experts to work on the iWatch for things like blood glucose etc, and of course, their Chairman is the former CEO of Genentech, and a PhD in Biochemistry. I wonder what they are planning.
