Watch looks very cool. But why would you need it if you already have an iPhone (or have to carry one around as well)?  Other than it looks great?

Not sure how much I'd use something I couldn't type on. I assume I can dictate voice though. It's obviously supposed to replace your watch and not your phone though.

And send emoji's  8) 8) yay

Wonder what the battery life is.  I wouldn't use a watch I had to recharge every day or two.  Maybe I'm just getting old and bitter. I'm sure all the "cool" people will buy it because it's cool.  If you can get people camping out for 2 weeks to buy a product they've never seen before it's no longer just about the product.

The watch looks really cool, but I'm failing to see the point if you need the iPhone a few feet away in a pocket.  If this thing worked apart from the iPhone it would be a killer feature.  I guess it needs the iPhone for the notifications etc.

I'll say this about watches.  A few years ago my watch ran out of batteries and I just never replaced them.  I had an iPhone and figured it had a clock and would be a good replacement.  I went years like this, I'll pull the phone out of the pocket constantly for time.  Last year my wife got me a really nice GPS running watch for my birthday.  I've worn it daily since, after going watch-less for a few years I really appreciate having a watch on my wrist all the time.

It seemed like Apple killed the watch with the iPhone, and now they're just bringing it back, incredible on their part.

I wonder how durable this thing is?

I've never understood giving up your watch because of your phone.  I don't have an iPhone, but I do carry a phone which displays the time in my pocket.  I still feel lost if I forget to wear my watch.  I constantly look at my wrist, see it isn't there, curse under my breath and then take my phone out of my pocket.  There is a good reason that wrist watches replaced pocket watches, because they are far more convenient.  The same reasoning will go for any task that you can do easily on the watch without fishing your phone out of your pocket.

Phone looks great. I immediately wanted one. I may finally give in and get a smart phone.

Apple Pay looks interesting. Not available where I live (Canada) but we'll see. If I understand the "tokenization" feature, it should go a long way to defeating simple card skimming fraud schemes. The concept of a phone replacing credit cards also opens up some fascinating possibilities. When I was involved in the financial industry, there was a lot of talk about replacing multiple debit/credit cards with a single chip card. The technology was there but the idea seemed to be a non-starter as no one wanted to see their card disappear from the consumer's wallet. Now we have an iPhone that can handle Visa, MC, and AmEx. If this works, I think it's only a few years before we see smart phone apps replacing not only debit/credit cards but things like drivers licenses and even passports.

Not sure about the watch. Love the idea but I'd like to hold one in my hands to judge the ascetics and comfort. I've also heard the battery life is pretty short.

Disclaimer: I own a few shares.

To be honest, I am "meh" on the watch.  Don't really want one -- don't really think it will be of that much use to me.  And, actually, the Moto 360 looks more attractive to me from an aesthetic viewpoint.

The new iPhone 6 is very nice.  Already basically knew what it would be like because of the leaks and WWDC presentations.  I will likely upgrade to this new hardware.

The NFC payments is what I'm really stoked about.  That's a big deal for me.

Very disappointed that there was no Apple TV refresh.  I wonder if that's really because of Comcast/Time Warner.

I think it'll take a bit of time for people to figure out the Watch. Nobody has ever used one -- people at first weren't sure they could actually have a use for a smartphone (as weird as this sounds now), yet now everybody has one. But it isn't the next iPhone -- nothing is -- but I think it'll be a big success and once they start appearing in the wild and people who've lived with them for a while review them, things will be clearer and it'll be hard for many people to go back to not having this thing that augments the capabilities of their phone.

There's an iPad event next month. I expect it to happen then.

Maybe.  Or it may be that the watches aren't as big of a deal as people think they will be.

Who knows.

Didn't know that there was an iPad event next month.  Well that gives me hope then to have a new Apple TV before the holidays.  Hopefully, they will get the puck up to Apple standards.

The watch is definitely cool. They said it starts at $349, so with all the customization's they would allow on this thing, I can see the final price  approaching $500. The margins on this are going to be just great. If it can become a fashion statement thing, then I see a decent eps bump because of this product and the potential affect it could have in incremental iphone sales.

Apple pay thing seems nice, but it is really difficult to get people to change their long standing habits. Many companies have tried unsuccessfully before, so lets see if Apple can be successful. However, the meat of this business will be in the terms Apple negotiated with the payment processors and the banks. Looking forward to those details to handicap this thing.

I think the watch complements the Apple Pay option nicely.  If you can pay with your watch without needing to take out your wallet or even your phone, that would be convenient.  It will only be a novelty at first, because it won't be accepted at most places.  But once it gains acceptance more widely it will be thought to be a real pain when you have to pull out your wallet because a store/gas station doesn't accept Apple Pay.  Once you get used to a more convenient way of doing something, the old way becomes a hassle.

I keep thinking about this watch, I think this is a really interesting way for them to add high end items with huge margins at little additional cost to them.

Right now they have a few product lines, think about the Macbook.  There are just a few configuration options and users are locked in.  With the watch it seems they are saying the sky is the limit.  So users can customize and create any combination of these things they want.  Want a watch for exercise, buy the health model.  Want a stylish one to wear with a suit, buy the gold one etc.  It's the same hardware with different styling for dramatically different prices.

But for me, one of the benefits of paying using iPhone will be that there is an extra layer of security with TouchID required every time you make a transaction.  I would rather pay with my phone than with a watch where TouchID isn't required.

This is exactly what I think they are going to do. There are going to do engravings at the low end, diamond crusted, platinum plated things at the high end etc. It is going to be more of a fashion statement thing. It's more style apparel than consumer electronics. But once people get used to it (paying with it, getting messages, weather, calendar, navigation etc), its going to be really difficult to get back to a "normal" watch.

Does the watch support bluetooth headphones? Surely we are not going to plug in those earbuds into the watch?

As previously mentioned, you need a phone for the watch to work, so you still plug those earbuds into the phone ;)

Another interesting thing about the iphone pricing today is the 64GB model is "only $100 bucks" more than the 16GB version. Given the camera and HD video capabilities, I would imagine a lot more consumers would go for the 64GB model rather than the 16GB model (it's going to be an easy sell to previous iphone customers), potentially driving iphone ASP's up and helping margin expand even further.

All in all I think they did some interesting things today from an investors perspective.

This is what I thought about immediately.  Watching the initial video showing the different faces, bands, it is easy to see how this is customizable from a fashion standpoint.  Reminds me of the iPod and how people bought more than one because they needed multiple colors.  This goes further.  There will be a huge market for customization.  Before the demo, people were wondering how will you show everyone how rich you are, like with a Rolex?  How about gold or diamond-studded bands?  I think they sell a ton of these overseas, particularly the Far East.  When the luxury brands start making accessories, you will know the Apple Watch has arrived.

Actually, I think you are supposed to be able to play locally stored music directly off the watch (after it's been paired with an iPhone, of course).

Presumably, that means that Bluetooth headphones will be supported.

What do you want to bet that the $349 "starting" price doesn't include the band?  From the pictures there is a sensor in the band so you can only pick ones that Apple puts out.

Anybody heard anything on battery life?

Nothing on the battery life but that's fine since it's not a complletely finished product yet.  It looks like the company had employees demonstrate the functionality of the watch to reporters and did not let them play with it by themselves.

Business Insider says that they asked the company about battery life and the company response was "you can charge the watch at night".  Sounds like less than 24 hr battery life. No matter how beautiful the watch that would be a deal killer for me.

Please read about how credit cards work in other countries.  This is coming to the USA now.  The way payments will work on this phone are exactly how they are going to work for all credit cards in the US/Canada in 1-2 years as credit card companies are mandating that retailers and banks upgrade.

People at work were laughing ... wondering how many people will think that Apple invented this technology.  The change is being forced by credit card companies.  It would have been a gross oversite for Apple to not finally get on the NFC bandwagon.  Oh, this is just NFC by the way.
