People go to great lengths to avoid wearing glasses, but on the other hand people like to wear sunglasses.....

Well...I think people dislike being blinded by the sun more than they like wearing sunglasses.

Most people don't wear sunglasses inside or when it's not sunny out.

People will like having a reality overlay display available to them at all times more then they will dislike glasses.  Right now you can see the geekyness of a beta-product which isn't ready for primetime, but you can't see the benefits.  And even if you are thinking of the benefits you are thinking more about an iPhone on your face rather than the completely new uses to which it will be put.

How do you know this?

Because I am not very creative and I can think of a number of uses for the technology. Having real time overlaid info about objects and buildings available instantly upon request (eventually even info about people).  Having real time gps info for walking or driving. Having supporting information about topics of conversation available while the conversation is happening.  Things could get even creepier/more useful from there depending on how you look at it.  There could be ratings agencies coupled with face recognition technology which let you rate anyone you come into contact with and see the sum of their previous ratings immediately over their head when they come into view.  There are a million different things you could do if everyone and everything were connected at all times.  Someone would be unable to function in society without such a device if almost everyone else used it.

I love how investors magically transform into product experts. :)

Instead of looking at the phone, you look at your wrist.  Not a big upgrade.

Instead of look at your phone, you stare into space, not a big upgrade either. But more weird.

The geek factor may be an issue, but about two thirds of the population wears glasses.  By the time we get to the third generation, I'd be surprised if it's an issue.

Are we to expect that two thirds to walk around with a pair of glasses on top of their current glasses?

BTW, aesthetics is just one of Glass's problems.

Wow, this has got to be the funniest response ever from someone who professes to be technically knowledgeable.

Yeah, people never stare into space right now.  And looking at your wrist for telling the time is something that people have done since the days of the neanderthals.  People have never adapted in even the simplest ways to new technological advances.

And, after the first version of a technology comes out, it never evolves.  People will be stuck with two pairs of glasses forever!  I can't think of any conceivable way of solving that troublesome "two pairs of glasses" problem.  ::)

The other thing that I'm really looking forward to hearing you completely reverse your position when Apple brings out the iGlasses.  I'm fascinated to see how you'll resolve the cognitive dissonance.

That said, I agree that Google Glass has some problems.  I think the biggest one is that Google is preventing third party developers from making a profit off of it.  I think the right strategy to get third-party developers incented right from the start.

^^irony.

I claimed to be an expert?  I'm an engineer, but not a product expert by any means.  This is post 1881 in this topic and of all those posts I don't believe anyone other than you has claimed to be an expert.  :)

Just curious valueInv,

If you are willing to share... how big of a position is AAPL for you, and if the price were to drop say, 10% further, how large of a position would you be willing to make it?

5% today - pretty close to what I consider a full position. I would be willing to increase to 6% at the right price.

All this talk and it's not even a 10% position? Color me perplexed.

I have a portion allocated to funds, a portion managed by me.

It is a much larger portion if what I manage myself.

For example, it is more than 70% if my IRA.

Who cares about position size when you can have an emotional stake in AAPL.  ;D

Marissa Meyer was asking the same question. ;)

The design wasn't what I was expecting based on the rumors.  It is indeed more flat, but it still looks very skeuomorphic to me.  Not that I consider skeuomorphic a bad thing, I like it, I'll upgrade my ipad as soon as its available.

The design is indeed very Metro. When MS does it its bad, but when Apple does it it's "innovative"....

Wait, who was saying metro was bad?  I love apple products, but I thought Metro was very interesting, and I'm sure seeing it pained Jony Ive quite a bit, as it's probably more what he had wanted to do for some time.
