It would be nice if they had a Mac and reasonably sized Macbook < 1k.

Also who exactly uses these super high powered computers like the Mac Pro? Anybody splitting atoms on their desk?

Designers, creative media people.

The design wasn't what I was expecting based on the rumors.  It is indeed more flat, but it still looks very skeuomorphic to me.  Not that I consider skeuomorphic a bad thing, I like it, I'll upgrade my ipad as soon as its available.

I like the design too.  It feels very fresh, and I like that they've taken a bunch of UI ideas from other operating systems.

Interestingly, anyone who has been using the Yahoo! Weather app (recently released a couple of weeks ago) appears to have a gotten a little sneak preview of the new iOS 7 look.  The app that Apple demoed today still appears to pull info from Yahoo!, so they must have collaborated on the Yahoo version that was just released.

Yeah, when I saw the weather app, I thought "They ripped that off from Yahoo."  But maybe they worked together, or maybe this will precipitated another billion dollar world war of litigation.  The mac pro suggests to me that maybe: 1) they are still designing new products and pushing the edge and 2) maybe the rumors of demise of the personal computer are overdone.  Can't wait to see the new MacBooks!

You can get a mac mini for ~$600 bucks.  I miss the macbook white.  I think perhaps you can get those through some educational institutions.  I had one that never crashed once in 7 years.

wont move the needle.

looks like they're setting up for a monster september, with iphone 5s, 5 mini, mini retina, new ipad possibly.

in the meantime, they can keep buying back stock.

Mindblowing:

Not that it is going to make much difference to the business.

Yes, but it questions the bromide - "Apple can't innovate without Jobs".

As far as this fall goes, the meat will be in new product categories and new product segments.

Apple has clearly overdelivered with iOS 7 and OS X Mavericks. The new Mac Pro was icing on the cake by showing (once again) what Apple is capable of on the hardware side of things when they focus.

Recently, Apple nailed the capital release plan (greatly increased buyback and dividend increase). Today, same with software. The table is set for the hardware releases coming this fall. Maybe Tim Cook isn't an idiot after all.  :)

Oh, and just imagine how well a wearable or living room device will fit into the Apple ecosystem. I think Apple is looking forward to proving the naysayers wrong. Innovation is likely alive and well; just because people can't see it doesn't mean its dead.

Stock looks like the stock is being pulled back like a coiled spring; at some point sentiment will change and we will be off to the races.

jeff, I think I read the ipad update will be available to developers in a few weeks. I think how the software (look and function) is intergated accross all the Apple devices is going to really going to impress. Another brick in the wall....

Everyone is focusing just on the colors but there is much more to it than that. the transition animations, dynamic background, multitasking, control center.. all very cool and functional. you have to try it to get a feel for it.

control center is so useful, i think the side buttons (volume, silent mode) will go away w/ 5s.

I saw some mention of improving the photo stream/photo sharing mechanism--for anyone with the beta version, is it much more user friendly yet?  I find it so annoying that even when I want to share photos via the streams, I don't bother.  (I'm not talking about the simple emailing of photos, but sharing the photo stream itself).  Hopefully, the new organization mechanism will be nice as well, instead of the big lump of photos I currently have.

not enough beta users for me to try it with :P. but the photos app has tremendously improved. love it.

Hmm...it doesn't quite look like Apple, the colors are too harsh and not whimsical. Marissa Mayer spits on this.

Jellybean iMacs, brightly colored iPod ads, Aqua "buttons you can lick". It's the old Apple.

What is the new multitasking features?  The one thing I absolutely hate about my iPad is that I can't run two apps at once.  I'd love to be able to play a sound file or a youtube video in one app, minimize it then use another app while listening.  The iPad literally runs one process at a time.  I've found even the tabs in your browser don't run in parallel.  If you play a video or stream sound in one tab then switch to another it will continue to play for only a short while then stop.  Very annoying.  It's like the days of MSDOS. You have to quit one application before starting a new one.  If iOS 7 will fix this then I don't care what it looks like it will be the largest improvement to the iPad ever.  I don't have an iPhone, so I don't know if this problem bothers iPhone users.  Maybe you only want to do one thing at a time on such a small device, but for a tablet I would think listening to audio while browsing the web would be a common way people would wish to use it.

I think the market is looking beyond tablets and smartphones. you can see the muted reaction. the market has figured out what it thinks about tablets and smartphones. investors wants to see more innovative products from apple. not refreshes of old ones.

IOS already has partial multitasking.

BTW, if you play a video stream on one tab and switch to another, you can't see the video and hence, it would be useless to have the video continue to play and consume resources.

One would think that, but it isn't true.  I often want to only hear the audio.  Lectures, speeches, interviews, etc

It's still a little unclear to me whether the multi-tasking involved with iOS 7 will allow what you're talking about.  All apps will be able to update in the background if the devs use Apple's multi-tasking API, but I don't think that necessarily means that they will be continuously running in the way that would be required for your use case.

I know that Win 8 has side by side multi-tasking.  That might be one way to go if you often use your tablet in that way.
