lol I had no idea bbry is supposedly working on this. that must explain your fascination with this device that frankly baffles me. You brought bbry up not me. And I really don't think bbry is working on anything except getting the next phone that won't sell out the door. :)

Haha, right.  We had a discussion about Ubuntu Edge on the BBRY thread.  Where you also said I was overly fascinated about an "ephemeral set of technologies."

Did you forget? ;)

And just a few posts back in this thread, you said that such a technology would "emerge from the labs of one of the large companies that has a stake in the future of mobile computing."  It seems like the only reason you feel a need to slap down Canonical is because of your views on BBRY.

right. but what you never have done is make the bridge to how bbry is going to commercialize this technology and  have never supported with fact any positive investment implications for bbry. all you did here was highlight a very tiny kickstarter program that got all of 2 days of tech press. what you never do is quantify all these "dreams" of fantastic new products and technologies, as well as the implications for the investment case of bbry. that's because it's impossible. it's all just PR manufactured in Waterloo. I have asked you over and over again to get specific on these Dreams of licensing bb10 (never happened), commercializing qnx (not happening), of new product categories (where are they?). there is nothing concrete. there is nothing that you can even use to estimate future intrinsic value. this company can barely get phones out the door, and definitely not when they say they will.

Haha, okay, okay.  I get that you're not a fan of BBRY, but why take it out on poor Canonical. :)

why be sentimental about investing? investing is about facts. and the facts are the Canonical has no money. they have no infrastructure. they are a linux distro. they now realize that all they have to offer is desktop linux, which has peaked as a product category. And they don't have any mobile products. They can't afford to develop any so they are asking for donations. They can't develop a new smarphone OS, because Android has won. What can they do? dream up something that nobody is really doing.

So I am not picking on them. msft and moto have tried these kind of products before and they have failed to gain traction. That technology is still in their labs and can be commercialized if the category ever catches on again. Regarding bbry and ubuntu, I am simply stating what I think is the reality. This product category has no investment implications foreseeable in the next few years. Certainly not for bbry, which has no prototype to even show. If they had anything at all, they would be showing the world that they have something going on besides phones that aren't selling. And even if there was a prototype, we all know that getting product from that stage to out the door, is not the strong suit of bbry (tablet).

I am not that negative on bbry stock price. primarily because my thesis is different than yours. my thesis is they are going to sell assets and restructure, and figure out a plan to move forward from a smaller asset base. if they do that, then shareholder value can possibly be created from this level. if they go your route, and they start thinking they can beat gogle and apple and msft, and keep releasing phones, and work on new technologies that are years from commercialization, then I would get increasingly negative on the stock price.

So many things to dispute, as I have already done on the BBRY thread.

But I'm not interested in hijackng this thread, so I'm done. :)

You certainly know how to pick 'em:

The abrasiveness of these threads (GOOG, AAPL, and RIM) make them difficult to read, and that is true even when I agree with the substance of what is being said. I usually find myself in the awkward position of being most annoyed with the person I tend to agree with simply due to the tone.

Did you really have to phrase it that way?  It would be more useful if you could point out news and give your opinion of it without insulting people.

Profile --> Modify profile --> Buddies / Ignore list --> Edit Ignore List

given the historical quality of this board I don't think any of us should ever have to use the ignore user function.

Folks,

Please cut out the insults and abrasiveness in your posts.  I always find it fascinating to watch how such intellectually-gifted people let loose their baser, emotional instincts.  Be a Vulcan...control your emotions!  ;D  Cheers!

The problem with this solution is that one of the reasons that this board is the best investing board on the Internet is because of the respectful culture.  Some comments change people's perceptions about acceptable ways to communicate on the board, which has a good chance of impacting that culture as other people take the cues and begin to think that respect isn't important.

So, ignore might solve the short term issue, but I care much more about the long term impact.  I wasn't sure of the right way to attempt to defend that culture other than what I said.  Sorry if it offended anyone.

ValueInv, do you hate Samsung more or Google?  ;)

I'm deciding which smartphone to buy, I love the GSs screen, and the interface looks beautiful, but iPhone is so sleek. Galaxy Note looks great too. I went to the store to look at iPhone but the GS4 and Note are awesome....

How do people afford this stuff? I gonna be paying 650 for a smartphone....having second thoughts about this...

Seriously??? Have you read the reviews on the S4?

iPhone 5S is going to be announced soon. Also, iOS 7 is a major improvement. There's a lot more coming.

When claims masquerade as analysis, facts and theories materialize out of thin air, disingenuous arguments rule - you can no longer have a rational discussion. I simply call out BS when I see it.

The quality of the board is very high when it comes to areas other then tech. The tech threads have a high proportion of fictional content. Go back to the RIM, Dell threads and read about all the theories proposed, all the moats imagined. Now compare to how things turned out.

Did they add another row of apps? Or maybe added an even higher resolution screen? Or change the default search bar to use Yahoo? I'm long Apple btw, but only because it's cheap and iPhone fanatics keep paying high margins for mediocre phones. There hasn't been any real innovation released from Apple in awhile and that was true even before Steve Jobs passed. I'm not expecting much from this release either, but would certainly welcome being wrong....

Apple did what I call a platform shift last release. iOS7 has been the biggest change since its inception. They have announced some features, others are under NDA and there are some more which will be 5S specific. There's a lot more to iOS 7 than what the bloggers are talking about.

And if you look closely, they are slowly inching their way into cars.
