Aurelius
Exactly. So the shareholder yield is -1.3% per year. Pretty stunning for one of the most profitable companies in history. The bull thesis outweighs this negative but as a shareholder you are paying a steep price for Google's "depression era mentality". Hopefully they will become more enlightened if there is tax repatriation reform. I'm not sure I'm fulling grasping what you are saying here: -1.3% shareholder yield - are you alluding to dilution here? And are you saying because Alphabet is one of the most profitable companies, that they should not have any dilution? Seems like a no brainer to do more buybacks than they currently do. We'll see how this develops as they just started doing them. Fully agree that bull thesis outweighs conservative BS policy. Especially as this is not all bad --- it gives them great optionality, added safety, and it's very easy for them to change it and be more agressive should they decide to. rkbabang
When I want to buy something online, I start at Amazon, followed perhaps by any other relevant retailers (electronics: BestBuy, newegg; furniture: Wayfair; groceries: Walmart; etc.). If it's non-Amazon-able purchase (e.g. flight), I go directly to the relevant site (e.g. Orbitz). I pretty never search for purchasable things on Google. I also use Bing for pretty much all my regular searches. 8) I just had to type bing.com into my address bar to make sure it still existed. I think I've probably been to bing 3 times in my life and one of them was just now. I always start at Amazon to buy things or type in another site like you said, but sometimes you can't find something at Amazon and you don't know exactly where to look, that is when I search google as a last resort. Spekulatius
When I want to buy something online, I start at Amazon, not Google. How about others here? If it's cheap ($50 or less) , I go to Amazon and call it a day. if it is a more expensive item, i search online using google and go to slickdeals.net to find a deal on it. I find myself going to Amazon most of the time as well. I do use Google Flight when I am planning a trip, but I know others use cheapoair, priceline, etc... Besides Amazon, there are so many specialist search engines. It's been a bear thesis for as long as I can remember.

Guest longinvestor
Should come as no surprise. EU has been after Google for some time now. "Big is bad", "Big American is really bad" seems to be EU regulators' approach. Reminds me of when the anti-trust against MSFT was in full rage. The single best line I heard on that topic was Anti-trust was never meant to be social welfare for the competition; It is there only to protect the consumer A Harvard Prof (name?) In my opinion, the real issue to be tackled is the unbridled invasion of privacy of consumers by the likes of Google and Facebook. Mostly targeting younger people, children included. I believe this is another massive investigation underway in EU. This one could turn into a stench one day. Put me down for this being the long term short case. John Hjorth
Should come as no surprise. EU has been after Google for some time now. "Big is bad", "Big American is really bad" seems to be EU regulators' approach. ... It's just soo true. Ms. Margrethe Vestager is just soo scary to me. Before she left Danish politics, she was the head of a Danish political party called "Radical Left" [translated to english here - that's a fact, I'm not trying become political in the investment ideas forum here]. Inside my head I hold a list of female specimen of Homo Sapiens, which I call my "Pooh-Filter". That list contain my ex-GFs, that have broken my heart because of dishonesty, plus 2. When the priest is thundering "There is a devil among you!" the only two listening members of the church present look scary at each other. One of them in my head is a Danish filthy rich widow that sued her daughter for getting snatched in stock deal, lost the trial, court ruling to cover her daughters legal expenses of about DKK 5 M. Guess who the other person is. My thesis is that she is shaving her chest every morning to keep up her female appearance. Why have nobody just solved this issue by calling her husband and kindly asked him to kiss her sincerely more frequently? My guess is, that he has stopped doing that long ago, because he's scared of her, too.

I get $5 Amazon card, but now I'm trying to save for 12-month Microsoft Xbox One Live. It's way cheaper with points than with buying (less than half price), so gonna be a bit of a boost.
