Holy Crap, you cant go wrong anywhere in those cities.

Depends on your age and what you like and who you are with but yea, cant miss in those beautiful cities.

I'll let Locals of both places chime in (Im about 1hr outside Toronto) but Montreal go to Old Montreal for supper - dang I wish i could remember the great steak/restaurant I was at last time there.. Rileys maybe?

Casino in Montreal....um... traffic in Montreal. :-\

Whats the name of the Deli? Swartz or Rubens

Little ITaly, do a supper down St.Laurent.

Toronto, just like Montreal, sooo many places - CN Tower do the new Edge walk! :P

If you do not eat a smoked meat sandwich at Swartzs you better be a vegetarian or you will be eternally regretful. There are a boatload of good food in Old Montreal and missing the 3 or 4 blocks that make for the night life district of Montreal is missing the best non stop party available in Canada.

Yes, my wife can attest to sticking with the vegetarian option at Schwartz Deli.  She had the chicken and regretted it for a couple of days.  I had the Montreal smoked meat on rye and it was pretty good, but just know you'll be herded in like cattle and placed at a table with other people.  Get the sandwich to go and sit in a park.  ( If you're into smoked meat sandwiches).

You can't beat Old Montreal for the atmosphere and old world charm.    Rue Ste. Catherine is the modern trendy street and has loads of good restaurants too.

My wife and I have done the double decker tour bus in Montreal, Ottawa and Vancouver and loved it.  It's a great way to see the city and get some insider info from the tour guide, as long as you don't mind looking like a tourist sitting on the double decker bus.  8)

As for Toronto, Yorkville's a good suggestion, especially around the Toronto International Film Festival, but be prepared to spend more for dinner.  Sassafrass is the trendy spot and during the festival, you may even spot some celebrities.

You have to go up the CN tower if you haven't before.  Bloor street and Yonge street are decent spots to walk and see other tourists................walking.  ;D

Hey Smazz, I'm also about an hour outside of T.O. where are you?  I'm in Newmarket.

Ha, Im on the otherside - border StoneyCreek/Hamilton.

Its listed as less than an hour but good luck getting to Toronto from there in that time! lol

About the delis in Montreal it definately was Rubens we were in last time - its not a cattle place like Swarz- its more of a restaurant.

Back to Toronto, they have quite a few Ferry tours through the Toronto "islands" - Ive been on a few way back, a friend and his wife took one just weeks ago and really enjoyed it.

In Toronto, if you like good Chinese food, you should visit Lai Wah Heen...very good.  Canoe is nice, but expensive.  Bymark makes a killer lobster grilled cheese sandwich...again expensive.  The best Kobe beef sliders are at Trevor's Kitchen & Bar.  Also a number of very good pizza places...some of the best you will find outside of New York.

The one thing that has gotten better in Toronto over the last few years is their coffee.  When I first started going to Toronto, I couldn't find good coffee anywhere.  They had hardly any Starbucks, but plenty of Timothy's, Tim Hortons and Second Cups.  Now they have very good baristas at a number of cafes.

Don't waste your money on a Blue Jay's game...that ballpark is probably one of the least attractive ever built.  You're much better off watching an MSL game in the open field.  There are plenty of touristy things to do and see in Toronto.  Don't know if you like hockey, but the Hockey Hall of Fame is in Toronto.  Some great architecture in Downtown, through Yorkville, etc.  They've restored several pockets of downtown Toronto and saved many heritage buildings.  You'll find plenty to do and see.  Cheers!

I am born and raised in Hamilton.  I grew up at East 14th and Queensdale, about 10 minutes from Limeridge Mall. :)

I've done many drives/GO train trips and I know sometimes the 1 hour is if you're lucky.

I would say that a Jays game would be worth it to a baseball fan, especially if a top team is in town.  It's not just about the Skydome, that was state of the art until the day it opened, then it was seriously out of date.  8)

Harbourfront is pretty nice, especially after dinner when the sun it going down.

The Toronto PATH system is pretty cool, but you may very well get lost down there.  And really, it's only underground shopping.  Still kind of cool though, especially if you're a people watcher.

haha... I used to go out with a girl from that area  (name will be withheld to protect the innocent = me :P) and still have alot of friends who lived there

Most people who commute will only get there in an hour if you use the train but from this side of the tracks its like they have forgotten us. Its a pain to pick it up - must go to Aldershot really

I totally agree - very cool place to see a game as it was made for Baseball - plus the surrounding area is nice now - not like other baseball parks that are in the middle of dumps.

IAgree - similar to what i wrote earlier....

Smazz,...

I found your edge walk at CN Tower awesome, i would try it  ;D Damn, I'm not in Toronto... sighs. I always wanted to parachute jump once in a lifetime, but have never done it,... and this edge walk on a leash would have a good margin of safety.  ;)  And for Sanjeev, this would be some good idea to lure more board members for his annual fairfax dinner, and all shareholders might get a free peek into Prem's office window at Wellington St ::), ...  oh just kidding. But this new walk seems fun. Hahaha..., I would be scared of bungee jumping or any other dangerous stuff, but this CN Tower seems fun, just walking around on a leash.

What kink of places are you looking for?

Marc

That is a nice typo isn't?

Anyway

Toque is (or used to be ) supposed to be the best restaurant in Montreal with chef Normand Laprise.

It is expensive and you need a reservation

"Au pied du Cochon" is very good too with chef Martin Picard

with poutine au foie gras de canard on the menu

Not the kind of meals to bring your cholesterol down though!!
