maxthetrade
Coke still inevitable? From the article: "A growing body of medical research at leading universities and government laboratories suggests that processed foods and sugary drinks made by the likes of PepsiCo Inc. and Kraft Foods Inc. (KFT) aren’t simply unhealthy. They can hijack the brain in ways that resemble addictions to cocaine, nicotine and other drugs." "As the evidence expands, the science of addiction could become a game changer for the $1 trillion food and beverage industries. If fatty foods and snacks and drinks sweetened with sugar and high fructose corn syrup are proven to be addictive, food companies may face the most drawn-out consumer safety battle since the anti-smoking movement took on the tobacco industry a generation ago." http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-11-02/fatty-foods-addictive-as-cocaine-in-growing-body-of-science.html
SouthernYankee
Repeat after me: It is not your fault! To all college graduates who need a job, if you can repeat those 5 words over and over, there are plenty of jobs which are about to be "created". Wait until Waxman, Schumer, and that ilk read about this! Oh boy, the class-action industry has been waiting a long time for this!!! Pathetic. ERICOPOLY
Why do they add loads of salt to a sweet drink like Coke? I've heard conspiracy theories but is there a practical reason?

ERICOPOLY
They might also be playing fast and loose when listing the ingredients: http://newsok.com/high-fructose-corn-syrup-in-soda-has-much-more-fructose-than-advertised-study-finds/article/3510173 The high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) used in soda is supposed to contain no more than 55 percent fructose and 45 percent glucose, according to the Corn Refiners Association. ... The Keck researchers found that the sweeteners in Coca-Cola and Pepsi contained as much as 65 percent fructose (and only 35 percent glucose), and Sprite registered as much as 64 percent fructose (and 36 percent glucose). Tested samples of Mexican Coca-Cola — which is supposedly made with cane sugar instead of high-fructose corn syrup — contained no sucrose, only fructose and glucose in a 52 percent-to-48 percent ratio. JAllen
Why do they add loads of salt to a sweet drink like Coke? I've heard conspiracy theories but is there a practical reason? Wouldn't you want to drink more fluids in general? Perhaps another Coke? That's why bars provide free salty snacks like pretzels....
Shane
They add loads of salt to coke? Coke only has 35 mg per serving, not a lot. Also sucrose is 1 part fructose and 1 part glucose, in water they disassociate... meaning that the glucose and fructose will be individual molecules in solution. augustabound
They add loads of salt to coke? Coke only has 35 mg per serving, not a lot. If my math is correct, that's 0.007 of a teaspoon. Doesn't sound like much.
oec2000
Isn't it true also that the high we get from making money has similar effects on the brain as cocaine? Explains Buffett's love of stocks and coke (the legal type)? :)
