new products at SNS

hey all,

I was eating at SNS a few nights ago and figured since my phone just got a new video function, would record some of the new products that they are trying out... Note that printing out new cards for the product trees is a lot cheaper than new menus.

Sorry for the messed up orientation on it.

Hey Jeff,

Thanks very much!  The one that caught my eye was the "Kids Eat Free All Weekend" offer.  That sounds a lot like the deal at Western Sizzlin.  What was the requirement at SNS?  Was it with every adult meal order or how does it work?  Some great values in there.  Cheers!

Steak ‘n Shake opens with new look, fresh paint

BY CHARLEE BEASOR

AVON — When the water heater caught on fire at the Steak ‘n Shake restaurant here April 4, it left the business closed and boarded up for seven weeks, while crews worked to repair and re-open the diner.

Employees and managers worked at other Steak ‘n Shake restaurants or other restaurants in the area while the work was being completed. Many of them even worked in the restaurant themselves, cleaning and helping prepare for the re-opening, which happened on Monday.

“We had a lot of associates cleaning up,” District Manager Joe Leuthold said. “Had they not done that, we wouldn’t have opened as early. It really was a team effort.”

All of the employees that worked at the Steak ‘n Shake before the fire will continue their employment with the company in Avon. They even got to hire about 12 new employees.

“Everybody returned,” Leuthold said. “We take care of them while they are off. Everybody’s back and we’ve got roughly 12 new associates and we’re looking to hire a few more.”

One thing that no one was expecting when managers and employees got to the store around 6 a.m. Monday was a group of seven customers who had camped out since 2 a.m.

“A group of kids came at 2 a.m. and (we opened at 10 a.m.) they come in every night,” Leuthold said. “We bought their meal, gave them some memorabilia, we were surprised to see that. It was a great tribute.”

One of the people in the group, Eric Scheffel, a 2008 Ben Davis High School graduate, said Steak ‘n Shake is something that he and his friends have bonded over during the past year.

“Well, really it was a year ago, me and my friends graduated in 2008 and the group that goes there now, we weren’t friends through high school, but we ran into each other at an open house,” Scheffel said. “That night we went to a bonfire and started talking and somebody’s idea was ‘let’s go to Steak ‘n Shake’ and the next night we went, and the next night, and our group formed. We would go almost every night, and we became friends with managers and servers, mainly Pam (Sprinkle). She took care of us, and we got to be really good friends with her. That’s how it all started.”

I am pretty sure that you have to spend 8 bucks on an adult meal, using no other promo offers/coupons. The offer is only good on the weekend.

That's still pretty darn good.  Husband and wife spend $16 bucks, while the two kids eat for free.  What a friggin' deal in a time like this!  They don't have anything like that in Vancouver at any restaurant I've ever been to.  Cheers!

All this talk of SNS made me drive over the local restuarant to try out some of the new items.

I started out with 3 Shooters and fries for $3.99.  I had the ketchup & mustard, the A-1 and the Chipotle.  They were awesome.

I finished it off with the new Snickers milkshake which was also very good (I asked the waitresses opinion on whether I should get the turtle, butterfinger or snickers and she recommended the snickers).

I hadn't been to this particular location in a while.  The promotions/signage were very good.  While I was there numerous people came in with coupons and other marketing material.  It almost appeared that many of them had never been to a SNS.  I asked a couple groups on the way out how they liked the new items and they all had very favorable opinions.

The restuarant was clean and appeared to be well run with friendly staff.  Good traffic level too while I was there.

The location is in Madison Heights, MI.

That part of Michigan seems like newer (<10yr) coverage for the brand...

There's a store near Great Lakes Crossing, about 20miles from Madison Heights I believe, that is located near the mall... problem is that it's the only restaurant in behind the mall, away from the traffic flow:

http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=steak+'n+shake,+great+lakes+crossing&sll=42.60214,-83.200365&sspn=0.78541,1.235962&gl=ca&ie=UTF8&ll=42.699753,-83.300915&spn=0.012253,0.019312&t=h&z=16&iwloc=A

It's brutal - when I was there no one else was in the store... the restaurants along Baldwin Rd seemed busy though (for some reason google has the location being on Baldwin, but I was there a month ago and the store was the one building south east of the mall.)

Seemed as though the developer sold one sap on that area growing... and it was SNS. This was a while back obviously, but it's a showcase of former managements poor judgment.

At least they have a good view of the woods... ;-)

What are the other stores around it?

There aren't any other stores around it. If you look at the map, it's the building in the south east portion, across the road from the parking lot.

There are a pile of restaurants etc, along the west portion of the map, the main street. The mall is mainly discount stores, Saks Off Fifth, N.M. Last Call are the anchors I believe.

Wasn't busy when I was there... and a couple fellows were being 'detained' by the blue&whites in the parking lot as I was leaving... there was a very present police force (not mall cops) at the mall.

The town is where Chrysler is based... that day was the day they filed. Creepy feeling.
