KinAlberta
Here is How Carl Icahn’s Picks Lost Twice As Much As The Market in Q3 http://www.insidermonkey.com/blog/here-is-how-carl-icahns-picks-lost-twice-as-much-as-the-market-in-q3-377233/ Cheers, Gio So he's buying AIG while Berkowitz is selling. Any thoughts on this? Massive redemptions, likely to accelerate when investors get a huge cap gain bill on a bad (loss) year with most of the portfolio locked up in illiquid securities (what would happen to SHLD tomorrow if he filed showing a sale) versus permanent capital? InspireByReason
Hey I read this article and noticed that Icahn has taken a massive leveraged short position. http://fortune.com/2016/05/10/carl-icahn-crash-stock/ has anyone taken a closer look at this? What the potential earnings may look like?
AzCactus
Is anyone else thinking this might be interesting? I mean the yield alone is pretty good and the company is ran by a decent investor. I haven't looked in depth but any thoughts are appreciated.
no_free_lunch
Could be but I have no idea how to value it. The dividend is interesting but where is it coming from, there is so little apparent earnings. It is 3x book and about 2x their "indicative value" so based on those simple ratios it looks expensive. However it has also been much, much higher hasn't it? If you come across any sites that lay out the thesis let me know. I suspect this could be a good buy but I can't buy something I don't understand.
KinAlberta
This article fails to look at its debt distribution, and makes comparisons with Berkshire over a couple time spans which is relevant to investors of the day but also relevant, far more relevant, is comparative risk and comparing apples to oranges using matching time spans misses the whole point, but its sure a feel good article. Is Icahn Enterprises Better Than Berkshire? Is Icahn Enterprises a better investment than Berkshire Hathaway? Past performance certainly seems to indicate so http://www.gurufocus.com/news/462250/is-icahn-enterprises-better-than-berkshire-
thepupil
https://www.valueinvestorsclub.com/idea/ICAHN_ENTERPRISES_LP/129611 https://www.valueinvestorsclub.com/idea/ICAHN_ENTERPRISES_LP/138284 I'd probably start with these short sale recommendations, update NAV for whatever events / market moves have occurred / adjust for whatever you think the authors / market may have wrong, and then see if its attractive. I've always thought it to be very expensive relative to other "guru" stocks, conglomerates, and publicly traded funds.
KinAlberta
I don't follow this company. However I understand that Icahn is upping his short positions. Is anyone following this? Is there upside here in an equity market slide or a bond mkt correction or is this just hedging his market exposure so in a downdraft IEP would still tumble? abitofvalue
Him being out may have something to do with this... sees journo poking around and that he is loosing RIN fight.. better to leave before am dumped. http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2017/08/28/carl-icahns-failed-raid-on-washington quite the story. Does make the short RIN position look pretty questionable.

Cevian
I know this will sound blasphemous but I find Icahn's interviews much more coherent than Buffett's.
