Green King
http://www.treasury.gov/press-center/press-releases/Documents/tg40_capwhitepaper.pdf ^ I think that is it Thank You I can`t believe this it. We are going to support the banks that over 100 billion for the economy We are going to give them cash in exchange for preferred shares. If they lose their equity we are going to we are going to convert the preferreds to them. Therefore common has value and so dose the preferred shares since the government will backing them with this program. But how did he know that if they had more losses the government will not wipe them out ? or did i miss something ? Were they all priced for bankruptcy ? Or the government would not be simply manage them through the bureaucracy ? (see like its too easy an answer.)
Rabbitisrich
He probably stress tested the banks to determine the likelihood of requiring further capital. The paper also provided a floor on the conversion price--very handy when the market price plunged the next month.

berkshiremystery
At least it seems that Tepper has some huge quarterly portfolio turnover rates,... thus... extreme increases and decreases in positions. http://holdings.nasdaq.com/asp/OwnerPortfolio.asp?FormType=OwnerPortfolio&CIK=0001006438&HolderName=APPALOOSA+MANAGEMENT+LP
