Valuemunger
Hi All, Is there any data about how much it cost to replace the batteries at end of life? Also, what is the impact on batteries when use in the dessert, such as Arizona? Thanks

ItsAValueTrap
Ok now I see why Musk's sales team was trying to get customers to pay earlier. http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1318605/000119312513222426/d538782d424b5.htm#toc538782_12 Tesla recently announced that it is selling stock. That kind of thing takes at least a month to put together. (Does anybody know the actual timeframe? I believe it takes a few months at least.) It takes time for all the lawyers and accountants to prepare the paperwork, to re-read everything, clear everything with the investment bank's compliance department, etc. Anyways, Tesla management seems to really know what they are doing. Selling stock at a high price is a good strategy. (And yes, Elon Musk is crazy because he is taking out a loan to buy even more Tesla shares. Get rich or die trying I guess.) merkhet
I just sat in a Model S at a local mall -- it's rather amazing. Also, I didn't know that Texas is their third largest market.
ERICOPOLY
Some interesting things I learned reading today on the Tesla website: 1) never servicing the car does not void the warranty 2) they will soon offer a battery replacement after 8 years for $12,000 paid today 3) if you do take your car into service, they give you a fully loaded performance edition car as a loaner. You can keep the loaner if you like it more (you pay some discount for it based on how old it is versus your car that you don't want back from the service center). This keeps the loaner car fleet refreshed they claim. 4) you don't void the battery warranty even if you neglect to keep the battery regularly fully charged

Reminds me of this question on Quora: https://www.quora.com/Business/Whats-the-shrewdest-smartest-maneuver-youve-ever-seen-in-business Henry Ford: In January 1914, Henry Ford announced a radical decision. He increased the worker wages from $2.34/day to $5/day and reduced the working time from 9 hours to 8 hours per day. Other businessmen derided Ford as a socialist, while common public heralded him as a hero. People even prodded him to run for a President. Even today, Ford's 5 dollar workday is widely remembered in the US. The Herbert Dow and "The Monopoly Breaker" maneuver is also great. ERICOPOLY
Signing paperwork today and about to pay the money for my Model S. But that's not why I'm posting this... The California sales tax exceeds my tax credits. So there is no subsidy, don't worry fellow taxpayers. Sigh... Recently they brought online new Supercharger stations in Buellton and Atascadero. So now I can pick up the car at the Fremont factory, get a tour, and easily drive it home without worrying about public charging stations.

I don't live in CA, so the CA sales tax you paid does me no good! ;) Actually, my daughter lives in West Hollywood, so it is helping her. I'm old enough to remember when IN first adopted a 2% state sales tax. Our current rate is 7%. I know from visiting my daughter you have it worse. If your daughter: has a job; has a significant other with a job; and/or lives off of invested capital earning a return; then CA taxes are most certainly not helping her. She has a job and owns property. So she is paying CA income tax, CA real estate tax, and whenever she buys anything CA sales tax of 9% in her area. So yes just her CA taxes are a significant amount. I often joke to my wife after we return from a trip to visit our daughter and buy something that the sales tax in CA would have been more than the item, or service, cost here in IN. collegeinvestor
Wouldn't you ordinarily have to pay a sales tax on vehicles anyways? So coupled with the tax credit you are helping lower your sales tax liability.
