Luke 532
When you go shopping, do you see half of people look at 8 different websites before buying a product? Not even close, that is imaginary. I don't really watch what other people are doing while I'm shopping. I do see a lot of people with their phones out... checking other sites, sports scores, e-mail, I don't know. Was just posting the quotes from the video to save people the hour of watching it.
Luke 532
There was 30 pages about short squeeze, and all of a sudden, no body talks about them anymore. heth247
Thanks for the video heth247. Here are some notes from it: Andy Chu is from Sears Holdings... 6:30 (Chu): “if you have items, merchandises ready to pick up, you’re running our apps in the background, driving around going to stores, we actually send you a notification when you’re actually near a store, asking you if you want that item delivered to your car.” This Andy Chu seems to be another executive Sears steals from Microsoft: www.linkedin.com/in/andylchu Divisional Vice President, Mobile Commerce Sears Holdings Corporation July 2012 – Present (1 year 7 months)|Greater Chicago Area • Full P&L mobile commerce responsibility for Sears and Kmart mobile • Lead strategy and product roadmap of the core Sears and Kmart mobile experiences spanning all mobile platforms • Lead strategy and product roadmap of the Sears and Kmart social community, ratings and reviews platforms and developer engagements Director of Product Management Microsoft July 2010 – July 2012 (2 years 1 month) • Led product management functions of Bing Mobile, Local and Map products globally • Managed the day-to-day operations of the product management organization and work closely with engineering to align feature plans • Partnered closely with marketing and business development to execute on product and business vision globally Director Product Management Microsoft October 2007 – June 2010 (2 years 9 months) • Led the product management organization of Windows Live for Mobile, including Messenger, Hotmail and Social Networking Services for the mobile web and mobile application development. • Management of business strategy, GTM, channel management, SKU definitions, value propositions and business development of Windows Live for Mobile services. • Responsbile for mobile advertising monetization for mobile web and mobile applications. • Engagement with mobile operators, device makers, software developers and direct to consumer offerings worldwide. BTShine
Myth, You are right. There is nothing special about SYW. It would impress somebody in 1994. And expensive! I had never used the site so I decided to do some comparison shopping for a few minutes. My wife has been looking at small vacuums, the hand held variety. The prices are consistently 20% more on SYW over Amazon, sometimes much more. My wife picked up a new belt for the vacuum this weekend, $5.50 at Target. They're $4.50-4.80 on Amazon, and $8-14 on SYW, same product. This is my first experience with the site, it looks fine, but my impression is that Sears is expensive, so why would I continue to go back there and compare items. I can do a store pickup at Target which is the same distance as Sears and pay 30% less, or order from Amazon and wait two days. I have no idea if their other items are as expensive, but seeing this price difference I'm not sure I even care to look. I have nothing against Sears, this is just a consumer comparison. One other data point re Sears. A friend was talking about the trouble with finding non trashy clothes for their daughter. She said "Lands End makes some modest clothes that aren't as trendy but they're very expensive." I don't have daughters so I have no idea what girls clothes are like out there or prices, but maybe Sears has a market for moms looking for modest clothes for daughters. Did a quick search for vacuum belts on Amazon and Sears. Amazon listed a Eureka RD vacuum belt at $4.53. Sears at $4.99. Not a big difference in my opinion. merkhet
It's a slow news day, so I've been pondering something... I always thought it was odd that ESL reduced his stake in SHOS to about 48% in Q2 2013 since I think SHOS probably has a good runway ahead of it. Then last month ESL took his stake (via redemptions) in SHLD down to 48%. Odd coincidence, huh? i.e. he could be bailing? or what are you thinking? I'm just thinking that he saw the redemptions coming -- though, vaguely, I remember someone saying they had to give notice at the end of 2012? Perhaps he's just holding his sizing consistent. (It's not a terribly fully formed thought...) There was 30 pages about short squeeze, and all of a sudden, no body talks about them anymore. Probably because it's currently not as likely with the increased float when compared to the dynamics present a few months ago. I posted the most recent short interest numbers as I almost always do -- unless someone beats me to it -- no one commented about it this time around though. SYW is not just a rewards program, nor something built just to compete Amazon. It is part of the "Integrated retail" idea, which I believe is Eddie's vision of the future of the retail. See this panel discussion about integrated retail, in which representatives from Sears, and Wholefoods and a couple of startups: So the thing I found interesting about the Integrated Retail video was that they use wi-fi to track you within the store. I don't know about anyone else, but I've been deluged with Land's End e-mails for the last two weeks or so -- and coincidentally, I actually spent a lot of time buying online at LE and returning merchandise to Sears in December. (Preparing for a ski trip in three weeks.) Additionally, for some reason, SYW keeps sending me instant SYW points for kitchen appliances and bedding. As it turns out, I've been to the Sears in Milford, CT to check out their kitchen appliances & bedding as well as the Houston, TX Sears to check out the same. And I noticed the wi-fi thing the last few times I've been to a Sears store, so I've been logging onto it while I walked around. Methinks this goes far beyond what Target & Co. have been doing. SYW is not "just a rewards scheme."

Weird, the price difference must just be the Dirt Devil stuff (what I was searching). Oddly enough one of the top hits on SYW are Dirt Devil belts for $319. By clicking it's a box of 27 packets that contain three belts each. A weird item to carry, I didn't know Sears did wholesale stuff.

Why pay one penny more? If I look for a vacuum belt on the 2 sites I will pay the lowest price. It's not like Sears has better vacuum belts. merkhet
I love experiments -- must be that hard science major from over a decade ago. I just got back from a Sears about 2 miles away. I walked inside and used the wi-fi to connect to the internet. Then I booted up the Shop Your Way App -- instantly, they recognized that I had been by the men's t-shirt section, the tools section and consumer electronics. The way I know this is that they asked me to click one of four categories on each of three pages to personalize my deals and those sections were a part of the choices. I then proceeded to go to the TVs and stand there pacing back and forth for a half an hour or so. Thank goodness one of the TVs was playing ESPN's discussion of tonight's NCAA Championship Football game or else I'd have been bored out of my mind. We shall see if future SYW instant points will be for the consumer electronics section.

Redskin212
Just saw on the local news that the Landover Mall store in Prince George County, MD (just outside Washington DC) is closing soon as well. Believe it or not is was the only store that was still open in a otherwise vacant mall for the past several years according to the newscast report. Luke 532
This is kinda cool: https://sweeps.fitstudio.com/points4progress/ Interesting. I like how you can link your apps Run Keeper, Map My Fitness, Fit Bit, My Fitness Pal, etc. to the Fit Studio and get points/rewards for workouts that you might already be doing. Good to see that Lands' End is going to stay within the Shop Your Way ecosystem... "The best part: All those points you’ve been earning, use them on anything at Sears, Land’s End or Kmart. Want a new treadmill? Walk your way to a discount at checkout. New toys for your niece’s birthday? Take a walk after dinner! The little things you do add up to big savings!" https://www.fitstudio.com/welcome/about_fitstudio The detail-oriented accountant side of me hates that they wrote Land's instead of Lands' Edit: Man, they really need to do some spell-checking.
