Picasso
I just checked out that ShopYourWay.com site. Clicked on 'Shop Departments' and chose Men's Halloween costumes. It lists the most like 'halloween costume' as this giant bag of Tootsie Rolls: http://www.shopyourway.com/rhode-island-novelty-black-chocolate-tootsie-rolls-360-pieces/146223091, and the top wanted halloween costume as this burgundy tie http://www.shopyourway.com/ties-and-bowties-burgundy-3-75-satin-tie-6816/313601906. This company is such an absolute shit show. You don't get it. SYW customers are loading up on the adhesive mustaches to peel off the adhesive and use that to attach tons of tootsie rolls on their naked bodies. It explains the price of the mustaches and most liked costume.

oddballstocks
So if there truly is a TON of value here why not just let this go BK, declare Chapter 7, liquidate and then return $100 per share to common shareholders?

They will be paying vendors with their new ShopYourWay points, which the company can generate with a click of a mouse. Vendors have the option of getting 25% more bonus points if they open Sears credit cards for their employees. And right now there's a fall halloween sale going on where all Tootsie Rolls bags are an extra 35% off if you use your points. That's an incredible savings for vendors, they can sell Sears merchandise and then quickly turn around and buy truck loads of Tootsie Rolls and mustaches at steep steep discounts. Picasso
I will post this here too since that thread was also over 500 pages long by the time something bad happened. http://forum.thecontrarianinvestor.com/index.php?threads/gt-advanced-technologies-inc-gtat.69/page-500 I know people in here have talked about putting all their money in SHLD, and sure it is different than GTAT but manage your risk. I would not want this thread turning into something similar. That said I think JCP had a big rally after similar vendor allegations.

Picasso
I actually think the SYW ridicule adds value to the board. What is left to analyze about the SOTP? Everyone has already done this and it is above the current share price by whatever value you want to give things like KCD or the inventory. Otherwise you end up with an echo chamber of everyone talking about how great SYW or Eddie is and it blinds you to the fact that certain aspects of the business are near failures. It also gives you a better idea of the sentiment towards the stock.
wisdom
It is Mr Market at work - no posts when SHLD is up but everyone jumps on the bandwagon when SHLD drops. Just like Bloomberg, etc to feed on emotions. It is to be expected. This could be an opportunity for one who can keep their head while others are feeding on fear. If you don't like SHLD or not adding new information (Bulls and Bears), please retrain from posting in SHLD thread. Thanks :) If we did that then this thread would have died back in 2005 with about six posts the last one being "Sears and Kmart merge, likely to collapse under the weight of their combined awesomeness." Sears is like the "Where's Waldo" of investment ideas, read through 600pgs to try to find the idea. I've heard Berkowitz regularly reads this thread when he needs a boost to his confirmation bias. Rumor has it he went through all 600 pages before committing to the recent loan. The delay was because he was only on page 400 when ESL asked for commitment, Bruce wanted to make sure he didn't miss any comments at the end of the thread. I can just see it now, a scene from the Berkowitz residence. Scene 2pm on a Thursday afternoon: Wife: "Bruce did you take the dog for a walk yet? Oh and did you call that guy about the pool?" Bruce: "Honey, I've told you before, I'm trying to work here." Wife: "Work, c'mon, you're just in there surfing the net again." Bruce: "It's not surfing, there's this Canadian site where people give me investment ideas" Wife: "uh-huh" Bruce: "I'll get to that stuff in a minute, this one guy says I need to buy some more, these guys think I should buy...I think I'm going to buy some more." Wife: "More Sears? I heard they're finally closing that dump that we drive past when we go to the country club" Bruce: "Closing...yeah, these guys say that's good...closing stores..." Wife: "Ok, just call the pool guy, and don't forget about Tootles, I'm going out for my manicure"

intothebreach
Just want to wish all fellow board holding/adding to their SHLD best of luck and success. Really hope it works for you. Dunno how much value this will add if any, but I sold out last week after being long since May 2008 even though I still believe that as of today there is still very good value in SHLD relative to the price. However, as much as I trust Berkowitz to do his homework and Lampert to make rational allocation decisions (no joke, I actually do), I came to realize that since I really had no way of figuring out how much burn the turnaround attempt would consume before either taking off or being shut down, I would not buy in if this was a brand new opportunity. It would go on the "too hard" (for me) pile. Hence the sale (you can say it took me a long time to get there, to which I fully agree, call it bias). There's seriously an appeal for compassion? Stocks go up and down. We all have things getting hit. It has nothing to do with what SHLD is doing. It has everything to do with the fact that Sears the store is hilarious. It's funny regardless of whether Eddie is a genius or not. It's funny whether the real estate and brands are incredibly valuable or not. It's funny even if you're curious about the guarantor/non-guarantor structure. The line that comes to mind is "lighten up, Francis".

Different (even extreme) views keep readers and posters generally more rational and realistic, it brings balance. We all remember the FTP topic where, by the way, I too had too big position. Aside from a few comments (in and outside the FTP topic) everyone was very bullish for almost 2 years. Some time ago I already said that, even though I got out ok (in contrast with those poor fella's on that GTAT forum...) I wished someone mocked my assumptions, valuations and expectations more often, even if at the time they did have some merit. Things like the endowment effect alone make it hard enough to stay rational. TL;DR: I prefer the occasional public embarassement over 'madness of the crowds'. Nate - quick question - you seem oddly committed to making fun of the Sears Longs. Any reason for this? Just wondering since you are pretty rational in most of your posts etc. but SHLD Longs seem to really irritate you. I have no position and actually find some these posts to be pretty funny but come-on its a bad day as it is for the - how about you give them a break?
