“As time goes on I get more and more convinced that the right method in investment is to put fairly large sums into enterprises which one thinks one knows something about and in the management of which one thoroughly believes. It is a mistake to think that one limits one’s risk by spreading too much between enterprises about which one knows little and has no reason for special confidence.” - John Maynard Keynes

Baupost's Q1 13-F is out.  Don't think you can read too much into it, but it's interesting to see that they took a $50 million position in Tesla debt.  They added to a number of their larger positions like Fox, Pioneer Natural, and Keryx Biopharmaceuticals.  And they sold out of Express Scripts.

Baupost's Q2 13-F is out.  Still a small position in the context of the whole portfolio, but Klarman continues to pile into Tesla debt, buying another $200 million worth.  Could be a sign they're shorting the stock, but unfortunately they aren't obligated to disclose short positions.  Also continued adding to Fox and sold out of Time Warner.

Fox position is really pretty big when you add the two classes of stock together (I know it's not his entire portfolio that is disclosed, so it's really just a large percentage of his disclosed equities).

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that he didn't actually sell out of Time Warner, since AT&T stock appeared in his fund the same quarter.

Baupost filing is posted -  Still adding to that Fox position.  Rough day for him in PCG.  Entered a position in Liberty Global, Univar, YPF, Tribune, Altaba.

Always interesting to follow Seth.  Biggest equity position by far is FOX, FOXA ->

Fox could be some of the best value in the market right now, especially at his size. Mostly exposure to DIS, which is decent on its own, but because of the collar you don't take much downside risk. Plus, the standalone stub is getting valued based on estimates of segment EBITDA, when they also a bunch of real estate that is very valuable. There is also some option value that they end up getting a bargain buying the RSNs back from Disney for anti-trust reasons.

I suspect he's been underperforming for so long he threw in the towel. But of course the towel is likely to slip and buying these Giants now is anything but certain not to continue the underperformance.

Since June 2013, 7 years he has been negative 31 percent as of today. He has underperformed sp500 by a wide margin and is ranked 160 out of 200 on tipranks.

I think you all are making too Much of 1-1.5% positions (Baupost $20-$30B AUM with these at $350mm or so) in cash rich companies whose enterprise values fell by 30-35% in the Q in which these showed up on the 13-F

Alphabet and FB together are about 5% of SPY; they are about 10% of Baupost disclosed US equity portfolio ($600/$6B-$7Bish) and a 1-1.5% position of total AUM.
