The highways in Los Angeles are surprisingly shitty for such an affluent area with a perfect climate.  I wouldn't be surprised if roads in some of China's major cities are better than LA.  I also wouldn't be surprised if they were garbage, either.

 

The roads around Shanghai are certainly better than the roads in most US cities.

And that is relevant because? Tesla's total cumulative sales surpassed 1 million in May 2020, so in order to get to your list they would basically need to recall every vehicle made since they started doing business.

 

Your post is totally besides the point anyway. The point here is that a company that cares about its customers, like Tesla claims:

(1) should have recalled every vehicle that is at risk (not only the ones in China)

(2) should have done this when it became aware of the issue (i.e. more than 4 years ago)

(3) should have done this on its own initiative - not when a local regulated required them to act upon the issue

(4) should take responsibility for its defective vehicles and not blame the customer

 

I'm still in doubt why a smart guy like you continues to defend EM - even on matters where there is no excuse possible?

Even though I do think the stock "valuation" is absolutely ludicrous. I can't comprehend it or even try to anymore. Then again I can't argue with my gains.  A fun money investment turned into real serious money due to the stock's relentless rise . Thanks Elon ?!

FSD beta is really impressive:

 

 

Yeah, there are kinks, but a lot of things are working great. And the kinks are mostly about car being too slow to turn or accelerate, which may be annoying for people behind you, but not really risking an accident.

 

FSD of course is misnomer: as it is, you have to expect disengagement once per ride or more. Still very impressive.

 

I'm back in the "I'm gonna buy a Tesla" camp especially if/when they release FSD to everyone.

Doesn't 30k recall represent nearly 100% of the cars they sold in China in that time period? It would only be about 10% for GM's worst recall. Either way, the fix isn't particularly expensive. I'm very curious if this stays contained to China.

 

I'm saying recalls are nothing out of the ordinary, and I'm surprised there weren't more for the early cars made in 2012-2013-2014... The company is basically a startup at that point, it's amazing that the Model S was as good as it was right out of the gate in 2012.

Would generally agree with this, but obviously important to differentiate Subaru recalling 1.3 mm cars for "contaminants in common household products such as cosmetics, fabric softener and car polish that could cause a brakelight switch malfunction" vs faulty suspensions.

As long as it's better than human drivers, it will be an improvement.  I can't find the numbers for accidents per miles driven, but I can find the numbers for deaths per miles driven.  For 2016 it was 1.25 deaths per 100 million vehicle miles traveled or 12.5 deaths per billion vehicle miles traveled.

Yeah. There's been plenty of all kinds of recalls all around the industry. Cherry picking an example doesn't illuminate.

Honda Joins Fiat in Paying Tesla for Europe C02 Compliance
