Cardboard
Anyone into LEAP? All I can say is wow! This stock was trading like an orphan between $5 and $7 for so long and is now being acquired by AT&T for $15 in cash plus a contingent right on a spectrum deal. It was pretty much the last small wireless player in town. Can't believe I did not spend much time at all looking at it considering the amount of time I invested researching Clearwire, Sprint and others. Once I sold CLWR, I forgot the sector and this one was pretty obvious when you think about it. Although, I never thought about a deal with such a premium. I guess the "true" last player not already consolidated is DISH and its large spectrum asset. Not sure if it is as obvious as the others however, with the large home satellite business and an unreasonable man at the helm. Cardboard
Packer16
I missed this one too. The remaining independent cell firms are NTELOS and US Mobile. You also have the Alaskan pair (ALSK and GNCMA) but they have cable and wireline and broadcast TV in GNCMA's case assets also. This may lead to more rationale pricing and high margins for the remaining players. Packer
valueinvestor82
I owned it in a big way, thanks to the Graham & Doddsville newsletter last quarter, where LEAP was mentioned by one of the managers being interviewed. It made perfect sense when one focused on spectrum as telecoms equivalent of "real estate." I must say, I was certainly surprised at today's news though! What could get even more interesting is if someone else like DISH hastily enters the fray and bids higher..I can always dream!

AchilliesValue
Packer by US Mobile do you mean TDS which owns 84% of US Cellular? That company might be worthy of its on thread. It's been on my to do list for quite sometime but I've got a fairly full plate at the moment. Edit: nvm didn't know US Cellular was listed separate as well. Shows how much work I've done on it. For those interested this is how it got on my to do list http://www.valueinvestorsclub.com/value2/Idea/ViewIdea/87999
Packer16
Yes that is the same one. My impression about TDS and USM was given the Carlson family control a sale was less likely. NTELOS is controlled by a PE firm so a sale is more likely. Packer

Cardboard I started accumulating this position from Jan 2011 and its one of those close to 20% positions mostly traded in red for past 2 years and i am very happy man past few days! I started with PCS and thought LEAP is same but lossing money(so LEAP kind of specultaion so i accumlated slowly) but hey both turned out be very good. I was expecting some by end last year but i am fine with 6months delay well worth the wait.At end of 2011 i only had 3 stock BAC, PCS and LEAP all went down 40% imagine the pain i went thru seeing my account but i added more and more and all 3 turned out great
