argonaut
Has/does anyone here subscribe to the manual of ideas newsletter and if so, how is their record? I see they recommend 3 stocks a month...
Guest deepValue
I've attached an old issue. They normally profile 20 companies and highlight three as their top picks. MOI isn't really my cup of tea, but it may be a decent idea generation source for people with lower standards/diversified portfolios.moi201305_deep.pdf
Packer16
I have gotten some good ideas from Manual of Ideas. I recommend you read the Manual of Ideas book to get an idea of their approach and some of the folks they talk to. Packer

cubsfan
Has/does anyone here subscribe to the manual of ideas newsletter and if so, how is their record? I see they recommend 3 stocks a month... I subscribe to Manual of Ideas, and have also attended most of their virtual value conferences, which have been fantastic. I am very happy with both, as they have been the best single source of ideas for me in 2013.

Do they discuss there 3 stock picks of the month? I'm thinking of signing up. Regards. I both subscribe & also attend many of their value conferences. They are separate and don't discuss their monthly ideas on the conferences. Those are discussions by different people with knowledge about certain special areas. For instance they just finished a conference about European stock ideas. Coming up is Japan. From those two conferences last year I got six ideas that I acted on. Four in Europe and two in Japan. This year I've acted on two European ones. I've been very satisfied and the ones from last year have done very well. You can ask questions during the conferences and many people do. I've been very impressed - having attended about 10. They are 2 day conferences - all online using Go-to-Meeting Citrix. You can ask questions. You get copies of the presentations and live replays. Over a 2 day period, you see 20-30 ideas. Afterward, this keeps me busy for a few weeks - filtering the ones I understand and want to drill down on. You can also email the presenter with questions. I started attending the Value Conferences about 1 year ago. Afterward I signed up for the Manual of Ideas. There is a nominal charge for each Value Conference. If you sign up in advance, I think it's $300 per event. If you are a Manual of Ideas member, you get a small discount. I've tracked many of these ideas, and bought quite a few. But in conjunction with the Manual of Ideas - there is no shortage of good value investor ideas. It's a lot of work - but it has worked very well for me. I love the replay ability and the transcripts which help immensely, in conjunction with my original notes from the live event. Here is the link for Value Conferences: http://www.valueconferences.com I've attended many of Tilson's Value Congress events - which are 2 days, and are excellent. I put these virtual value conferences on the same level as Tilson's. I do both of them all year long. Feel free to pm me if you have other questions. Deepdive
Some of the hour long presentations are helpful. Good businesses that aren't necessarily trading at good price. You can create a list and wait for a market selloff.
