  1. Pershing Square letter to Allergan board + Valeant rebuttal of recent accusations: http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/850693/000119312514336650/d787019dex9937.htm http://www.valeant.com/Portals/25/PDF/09082014%20AGN%20rebuttal.pdf
  2. I showed this video to my wife: https://www.apple.com/ca/watch/films/#film-design Now she wants one with multiple bracelets...
  3. I think it'll take a bit of time for people to figure out the Watch. Nobody has ever used one -- people at first weren't sure they could actually have a use for a smartphone (as weird as this sounds now), yet now everybody has one. But it isn't the next iPhone -- nothing is -- but I think it'll be a big success and once they start appearing in the wild and people who've lived with them for a while review them, things will be clearer and it'll be hard for many people to go back to not having this thing that augments the capabilities of their phone. There's an iPad event next month. I expect it to happen then.
  4. Not quite. "Need an iphone for the watch" might limit the addressable market. The watch by itself looks great though.. It does limit the market, but I think it is a necessity. A smart-watch isn't very useful as a stand alone device. It makes more sense to have it interface with a phone in your pocket. And besides iPhone owners are the ones most likely to be able to afford a $350+ accessory anyway. A lot of people will move to the Apple ecosystem because they want all these capabilities strapped to their wrist in a beautiful, customizable package. This Watch will make money by selling iPhones and vice versa. If this limits the addressable market to the profitable end of the market, which is what the iPhone owns, that's not a problem...
  5. The original iPhone also was available months after the announcement (which was in January, btw -- I think that turned out pretty well) so it wouldn't leak through the supply chain.
  6. It makes everything else in wearables so far look like how pre-iPhone smartphones looked after the iPhone came out.
  7. They're going to sell a zillion of these watches.
  8. For those who don't know, this year's event will be streamed live here: http://www.apple.com/live/2014-sept-event/ No need to wait until later to get a recording of the video or to follow sites that are live-blogging it. Things start at 1 PM EST. Update: Well, what a disaster that live stream is. Apparently the whole planet is trying to watch this video at the same time and there aren't enough servers in existence to handle it or something...
  9. My house is 246 years old (built in 1768). I don't want a sci-fi roof. What's more 'heritage' and old-school than the sun? 8)
  10. I guess it's a matter of taste, but I don't understand the whole "it has to be unnoticeable" thing. It's not like regular roof shingle are beautiful or anything. What's more boring than a plain roof? To me solar panels have that great sci-fi look that make any house immediately look 21st century and much cooler. But that's just me I guess 8)
  11. http://www.theonion.com/articles/bank-of-america-introduces-new-50-underdraft-fee,36881/ :D
  12. Alderon hitting new 52-week lows. This thread's been very quiet again... Hopefully a contrary indicator.
  13. In the recent SolarCity announcement about the acquisition of a cell maker, Elon Musk mentioned that he wanted to make "cool-looking" solar panels. Maybe he'll chance perception in that industry too :D
  14. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/liberty-global-has-no-current-731387?utm_source=twitter "no plans" to increase stake in ITV, "no comments" on possible Formula 1 investment with Discovery.
  15. That's too bad. And it can't work on the main house?
  16. There is no investment if you go with Solar City. Just a lower utility bill ;) Perhaps they are value shoppers and you are the one paying more? Eric, have you signed up for SolarCity? I remember you were looking at some alternatives a while ago, but I don't think you mentioned picking anything..
  17. And buy some expensive abstract art for the lobby!
  18. As the company develops, the name will develop, but the "Premier" name stays. Cheers! Premier Holdings Premier Corner Permierdyne Premier Hathaway ;) Nice ring to it.
  19. They're on a weird exchange that isn't available at most brokers, or is of limited availability (ie. phone only). http://www.cnsx.ca/CNSX/Home.aspx http://www.cnsx.ca/CNSX/Investor-Info/How-to-Trade-Stocks-on-the-CSE.aspx https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Securities_Exchange I wouldn't be surprised if a move to another exchange happened at some point...
  20. Well, after today's 66% rise, it must be overpriced, right? ;) :D
  21. Congrats again! I knew a few days ago, but kept it :-X
  22. Don't you think that by competing directly with the platform-makers they are increasing their chances of being attacked, rather than decreasing them? How many amazon customers will be on amazon devices vs amazon customers on other people's devices anyway? A few percents if things go really really well? All that time and effort, taking management attention away from other things and alienating partners, for what? It would have made a lot more sense to deepen partnerships with AAPL and GOOG as a non-competitor instead, just like it didn't make sense for GOOG and MSFT to start making devices and compete against their hardware partners (the main reason they did, actually, is because their partners weren't doing such a great job, but that's another story..). It turned out to be just a money sinkhole and now other hardware makers see them as a threat rather than an ally... Either you are a horizontal player who tries to be ubiquitous on all platforms and to partner with everyone, or you are a vertical one who adds value by controlling the whole stack. It's very difficult to be both at the same time because the strategies are not mutually compatible, IMO.
  23. I guess trying to make people pay a premium price didn't work... http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-09-08/amazon-offers-fire-smartphone-for-99-cents-with-at-t-contract.html
  24. My largest and only TV is 32" too. I guess we're TV brothers :D Only on a value investing board would you find such people, every house I go in besides mine has a monster TV hanging on the wall in every living room. My kids were literately jumping for joy and high-fiving one another when we replaced one of our 2 tube TVs with that 32" HDTV two years ago. We still have the tube TV in the other living room though, I didn't want to get too crazy. That's my experience too. Even the poorest people I know have cable (which we don't have) and a TV larger than 45 inches. We actually bought our 32" as a floor demo with a small scratch on the non-screen part, so we got a discount. It was a good value...
