  1. Pretty good website indeed: http://www.taimma.com/
  2. Don't you think that a cure to biological viruses would be much better?
  3. I still haven't finished reading the 2011 edition :P ;)
  4. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/ebix-enters-medical-e-learning-110000991.html Cash acquisition, should be immediately accretive. Seems like one more strategic add on to better position the company to be able to cross-sell health exchanges after getting through the door be replacing paper processes. To me it seems like on the insurance side they have pretty much all the pieces of the puzzle, all they need to do is sell, which is why they've been adding salespeople. On the health side, they are still getting new pieces, but they are positioning themselves well to benefit from that industry's move to SaaS software, digitalization of documents, and exchange-mediated transactions... Based on what is known, seems like a good move.
  5. Yeah, Buffett never took over a company so that he could fire the CEO... NEVER. Oh, wait a minute... That's exactly what he did with Berkshire! And it's not exactly the thing he's proudest of...
  6. “As time goes on, I get more and more convinced that the right method in investment is to put fairly large sums into enterprises which one thinks one knows something about and in the management of which one thoroughly believes. It is a mistake to think that one limits one’s risk by spreading too much between enterprises about which one knows little and has no reason for special confidence… One’s knowledge and experience are definitely limited and there are seldom more than two or three enterprises at any given time in which I personally feel myself entitled to put full confidence.” That's basically my approach.
  7. Pretty awesome. This is a great feat of engineering, much harder to do in a real world environment than lay people might think.
  8. http://www.grandich.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Morning-Pulse_20120113_ADV.pdf Sorry if this has already been posted here.
  9. I thought this TED talk by MIT's Donald Sadoway was absolutely great. Most exciting new tech I've heard about in a while:

  11. Lots of articles about RIM dying are popping up on tech sites: http://www.techi.com/2012/03/rim-isnt-restructuring-its-dying/ http://www.bgr.com/2012/03/30/research-in-motion-is-dead/ Not saying they know something we don't, just putting them here in case some here haven't seen them.. I guess it could be a contrary indicator, but I certainly wouldn't put even a penny on that.
  12. Kinda off-topic, but I'd like to encourage more people to use graphic avatars (see mine on the left). It helps to quickly recognize people visually when scanning a thread, and IMO it adds some personality to the forum :)
  13. That's just their authorization, afaik. They had the same thing last year. The main limiting factor on their buybacks is daily volume. They did a bunch a few months ago, but I'm sure they wish they could've gotten more at those prices (around $10).

  15. Sounds like a good move. I wish I could do the same right now :)

  18. Out of curiosity, what didn't it do that you expected it to?
  19. http://www.gurufocus.com/news/169950/how-warren-buffett-made-his-first-100000 IMO interesting article.
  20. What matters most is how the record was achieved. I'm sure some people can do 10x a year on tons of leverage, but they all eventually blow up..
  21. http://www.greaterfool.ca/2012/03/22/moral-hazard/ The second part of this post is pretty scary :-\
  22. Gold might make people money (sometimes), but it remains speculation, and it's just not my game. Not Buffett's game either.
