  1. I'm a fan of AMZN, but remember that this noted value investor had 13% of his fund in WaMu.
  2. Wow. Germany does know how to pass well and build up, but wow.
  3. Happy Birthday!!! Enjoy your day!
  4. For whatever it's worth, I've decided to part ways with LUK. A couple of things in combination have driven my decision: + Ian Cumming leaving the board + CFO planning on stepping down (health reasons) + Potential business relationship with former SAC Capital upper management (FFH shorting/lawsuit) I wanted to wait to see the results of the energy projects, but the above in combination pushed me to move on.
  5. A letter from Sergio from June 18th to employees: http://www.fiatspa.com/en-US/FiatDocuments/message_to_all_FCA_employees_in_Italy.pdf
  6. Thanks for the heads up. Here's the WSJ article title on it: "Ex-SAC Capital COO Kumin to Start Hedge-Fund Firm"
  7. Sweet, it now works from my wife's phone. Haven't been able to browse from her phone in a long time. It was the only way I could keep up with the board when on trips. Thanks!
  8. I don't see a huge issue with this. It's not convertible into equity, and it may be used to replace an existing tranche of higher cost preferreds.
  9. Additional detail on the Golden Queen JV: http://www.goldenqueen.com/s/Proposed_Joint_Venture.asp
  10. Pretty amazing to see workers striking at the Maserati plant in Italy. One of the few bright spots in the car industry in Europe. Maybe, I'm drinking the management kool-aid…. http://www.fiatspa.com/en-US/media_center/FiatDocuments/2014/Giugno/Spokesperson_declares_union_strike_at_Maserati_incomprehensible.pdf
  11. VersaillesinNY, Thank you for posting your notes!
  12. Thanks for posting. Will have to listen to the Sanford conference.
  13. Thanks for posting. Allan Mecham runs Arlington Value. They just posted an excerpt from his letter.
  14. Not a ringing endorsement some in this board would say (not me as you know). I actually think Mary Barra is behind the ball. She better start doing a better job. Thanks for those links Plan! It does sound like she is behind the ball on this big time, and selling cars is not like getting people to deposit money in a bank. She needs to be good on the PR front whereas Moynihan didn't need to be good at PR to turn BAC around, he needed to get them out of their legal issues. I don't know if I'd be buying a car from a company with endless recalls. Give her some time. Let's see how she proceeds after all of the recalls have been vomited out. We're judging her too quickly. Fair enough.

  16. Yes. I hope they set it up so we here in the US/CAD can directly invest.
  17. Question regarding when option expiration months become available for BAC. Bac is a cycle 2: Feb, May, Aug, Nov I would have assumed for the month of May, the following expirations would be available: May, Jun, Aug, Nov (Jan 15, Jan16) What I don't understand is why the Feb 15 expiration is available now? I thought it wouldn't be available until after the Jun contracts expired. What am I missing? From what I've read online is that only four months are available at a time excluding the leaps. Thanks!
  18. ---------------- Just noticed at least one “insider “ is confident that Leucadia is a good value at current prices. Francisco Borges ( Director) bought 10,000 shares at $25.58 totaling $ 255,777 today (May 14 , 2014) . greenwave Good catch! Thanks for posting.
  19. compounded return is calculated: (7.6/1.26)^(1/24) - 1 If it was 25%, then it would double every ~3yr or 72/25, which would mean 2^8
  20. Thank you for the question text. The answer they give makes sense except the justification about the stock price & capital base. Thank you for asking the question to IR and posting the response here.
  21. Thanks for posting your response. I'm a bit surprised that someone in IR would be touting what the stock is earning on a quarterly basis. It's almost like they are a sales person. I've never heard someone on a conference call/management try to pitch the stock like that especially to mitigate litigation levels. Could you post the text of your question if possible?
  22. I didn't realize the Diapers.com/Quidsi founders had left Amazon. The other founders of acquired companies are still there.
