  1. Thanks for sharing. I wish I could meet Buffett (it'll probably never happen), but I almost don't feel worthy of taking his time. Heh.
  2. For most people, the name of the company, probably...

  4. All sounds AWESOME 8) Did you ever share what happened during your meeting with Buffett? If it's already out there, can anyone give me a link? Thanks.
  5. You guys that were looking at it take note, its down almost 10% right now.
  6. What do you think of the "shareholder rights plan"? I'm no expert on those, but I wonder if it's scary enough to prevent takeover attempts.
  7. True, though it looks like there was at least a 40k block today, and yesterday there was what looked like a couple of 100k blocks (total of 340k shares for the day). That's significant if we keep in mind that there were just 630k shares traded on the November Q3 announcement that made the stock sink, which one would expect would be a much bigger deal, but it's not crazy unusual I suppose... But hey, I'm not trying to read the tea leaves. It's just making me curious.
  8. Looks like yesterday might not have been a one-off; high volume again and a big jump in price, and all that one a mostly down day for markets in general. Could this all be only due to the analyst report and management change? Or is there something else that isn't public? Hmm...
  9. I almost wish the results are a bit worse than what the "consensus of analysts" expects so that they can do buybacks at a lower price point once they get approval from the fed.

  11. Yeah, I think what was meant here is "no idea how to precisely value BRK", not "no idea at all". It's different to have an estimate, even if only based on what some other people you trust have said or done, than to have zilch.

  13. Wow, 11 years! I'm such a grasshopper compared to the old breed here. Happy birthday to CBF, thank you Parsad for all that you do to keep this place the best investing community on the net, and thanks to everybody who contributes! I've learned so much from all of you. :)
  14. Thanks Quebec. Update: Ended the day a hair short of 25% on close to 350k shares traded. Talk about volatility.
  15. Do you have access to that report? Do you know his stated reasons for upgrading? Anything to do with Pelletier?
  16. Looks like Mr. Market is pleased. Up 15% right now. What will really matters is operational performance, though.
  17. I don't know the personalities involved enough to judge, but maybe this could turn into more of a Cummings-Seinberg dynamic than Buffett-Munger. That would certainly be interesting to see.
  18. I kept watching, and my first impression didn't last. I now really enjoy it, and it is of cinematic quality. I'm excited to have one more source of high quality TV (I've enjoyed series a lot more than films in the past few years).
  19. Ok, cool. Too bad the calls aren't all archived somewhere, but I'll check notes. I know it was also mentioned in the St-Andrews (sp?) conference. Thurso seems to be able to produce very high quality DP, but from what they've been saying, LSQ might be even better (because of the type of plant and the wood supply).
  20. By the way, this announcement may be a prelude to my suggestion earlier about Fortress Paper entering the specialty pulp business. Even if they simply mention this as an option, on the next conference call, I believe it should help considerably. Currently Fortess Paper stock is trading like future Chinese tariffs are a given and at that time Fortress Paper will have no options, but to exit the dissolving pulp market. I think this option is not one that the investment community is currently pondering. That's an interesting possibility. They've mentioned that they want to do specialty DP in the past, but I think it might have been at conferences and not necessarily in places where a lot of investors would find out about it (I could be wrong about that, though -- anyone here remembers FTP mentioning it clearly on a CC or in a presentation on the official website?). Maybe stating that intention, even if it then takes a while to get certified and fine tune everything, would give some clarity and reassure some investors. I'm not sure if they could sell their whole production on the specialty market, though, especially if they add LSQ. At least maybe not all at once. But even some fraction of the total would be positive, and once they have relationships in that industry, they could build on them. Biorefining is another interesting possibility, though that's probably a few years off.
  21. Ok. I do sympathize with your frustration, but I just wanted to make sure I hadn't misunderstood some technical detail.
  22. Thanks for the update. Cotton seems to be doing a little bit better too. http://www.indexmundi.com/commodities/?commodity=cotton&months=12
  23. I'm not sure I understand what you mean here. Didn't he mean that once it's all built, you hit a switch and go from zero megawatt to full production? The problem so far seems to be that they can't finish contruction (tubing and worker problems and all that), not that it's done and that there's a ramp up to full production. Or am I misunderstanding what you and he said?
  24. Seems like good news. He does seem to have lots of experience, including with specialty DP. The proof will be in the pudding...er... DP. From the outside, it's hard to know if Vinall was competent and diligent and just had bad luck, or if he was to blame to some extent for some of the problems we've been having, but I guess we'll see if things start going much better operationally from now on. The hardest part is over for Thurso, though, but if they go forward with LSQ, that'll be an interesting comparison.
  25. Because you already knew what's in it or because you disagree with what is being said?
